COVID-19 - On the Ground

Good for you.
I’d say we need to balance the interest of “pride in doing our jobs” with the interest of health precautions during a pandemic, but I’m afraid that may be lost on you.
(Not to mention the whole pride thing sounds like more capitalist propaganda…what could possibly be more Merican than dying a preventable death for the sake of a job?)

You know these kids personally? My cousin's kid is one of them. He 100% wants to "go to school" - and he does. He does NOT hang out at the local Starbucks and he respects the mask mandate/s.
His mother (my cousin) has MS. I know, you feel he should shut the fuck up and be cool with going to school in an "unsafe" environment and if he brings the virus home to her - who cares - it's just a cold. He disagrees. Good for him.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
What percentage of teachers would you estimate are saying they don't want to do their job - safely?
You teach at a college/university. Have you ever taught in an inner-city school in a poor neighborhood?
I ask because I like to believe you are smart enough to understand that there are different working conditions in different schools.
Hey, I am 100% in support of kids being IN school right now - in a SAFE environment. Problem is, many of these schools aren't safe.

Good for you!
Now instead of being a jag off on here, go boast about it to the families of those who have contracted Covid at their places of employment - and died.

psych has become a caricature of himself
Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?

Lulz. You should stick to lying to your boss to get paid time off to go to ballgames and concerts.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:24 amGood for you!

As far as your insistent need to continuously commit libel against me, it is getting stale and you are really doing nothing more than proving your ignorance.
1. I have never lied to my boss. I openly welcome you to prove to me that I have.
2. The only times I have had "paid time off" "to go to ballgames and concerts" - it was cleared through my boss and HR after my requesting it. Do you have an issue with that? My employer doesn't.

Do employers care what you use your PTO to do? If I take a day off, I can do whatever I want with it. I always use PTO to take a half day to go to KU games when they have those dumb Friday night games early in the season.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:57 am"Lulz"? Does your employer not encourage their employees to utilize the PTO that they earn?

I can only speak for myself. As long as I am not doing any illegal activities and/or embarrassing myself or my company while representing the company, no - they don't care what I do with my paid time off.twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 11:04 amDo employers care what you use your PTO to do? Not embarrassing yourself?
Bro then I wouldn’t use PTO to go to the Dead and Co show with me after all.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Not to get off track on the rants about what a bunch of lazy fucks you kids is these days, but an ambulance and fire truck drove by my house yesterday afternoon while I was working for home and stopped at the neighbor's house. They came again last night during the middle of the KU game and took her to St Luke's with covid pneumonia.
One of my employees is working remotely from Australia right now. When we talked on Monday she said she felt safer over there than in KC. My partners have their panties in a twist about my "letting" her work remotely for the next 2 months. Truth be told I can't afford to have her quit so I am making the best of her circumstances. All I care about is, does she keep the work moving forward, and is she generating profitable revenue? Since both of those are positive, I don't know what the problem is.
Actually I do, they can't "see" what she is doing every day.
Then again they can't really "see" what their employees are doing everyday while they are in the office sitting behind their computer screens.
My wife reads stuff from a reddit that is all about workers who are part of the great resignation. There are a lot of idiots out there in management positions. It's no wonder so many people are walking away while the going is good.

By your own account, he asked you to come to work and you refused, claiming that you didn’t feel safe at work. You then turned around and exposed yourself to COVID exponentially more with your leisure activities. I would have fired you.RainbowsandUnicorns wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 10:57 am"Lulz"? Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Is it that anti-work sub?
I’ve been meaning to check out Reddit more.
I do think, generally and hypothetically, that if our economic slates could be wiped clean, that if we had no prior understanding or indoctrination of career workloads, and all of a sudden one day somebody approached us all and said, “you’re now expected to commit no fewer than 8 hours a day, no fewer than 5 days a week, for no fewer than the next 50 years,” we’d collectively tell that asshole to fuck right off.
And (to try and keep in the context of this thread) if that same asshole said that same expectation and then added, “we also want you to shrug off any perceived risk to health and life and shoulder that same workload regardless of a pandemic,” well…
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
That's the one. It is a good read on how managers and business owners can fuck things up while trying to wield power. If your actions are being governed by ego, you can get in trouble real fast.
