Dude is in his 70s, and my dad says, with a cautionary tone, it came from the fact the guy smoked joints daily since he was like 15.

Of course, my response was, “whoa that dude blazed every day for like 60 years straight, now THAT is a life well-lived!”
My brother in law had esophageal cancer. Did NOT smoke joints (or anything else) daily since he was 15. Maybe if he had, he wouldn't have gotten it?
I think the moral of our posts should be, do whatever the fuck you want if it makes you happy.

Also heard about one up at the resort.

Big line of folks at the lift. A group of skiers in blue jeans and Dallas Cowboys starter jackets next chair.

Folks, could you please put on your masks?

“Aw come on, yall’s just on a power trip.”

The liftie replies, “No that’s not a power trip, THIS is a power trip!” and hits the button to stop the lift.

Then everyone in line behind them heckled til yall finally masked up.

Masks outside on ski lifts?

Sounds scientific.

I was surprised to read that too but I'll be anal and ask, can you "social distance" on a ski lift?
Thus the reason why masks are required?
Forgetting the ski lift requirement, who would ever think that "scientific" would too often = moronic?
Yet here we are in 2022 - two years in to a currently raging pandemic and in regards to what science has (and hasn't) helped dictate, I feel MANY people are behaving like complete morons in regards to it.

As I have stated to too many people the last couple of weeks....
I live in a city in which if you are Covid POSITIVE you are allowed to walk in to and dine in a public restaurant as long as you are vaccinated but if you are Covid NEGATIVE and UNvaccinated, you may not.
I welcome anyone to explain that "scientific" logic/reasoning to me.

It's not about science anymore.

It's acceptable to spread covid as long as you're vaccinated.

mask mandates in salt lake valley INCLUDE masking when standing in line outside

given the increased transmissibility of omicron, sure seems like a reasonable precaution

… For more than a year, many have decried the politicization of the pandemic, masks, vaccines, boosters and the like, but the clash between Paul and Fauci demonstrates that the pandemic was not politicized through the machinations of both parties, but was subject to a disinformation campaign from the right. Paul has falsely claimed that masks don’t work (a position that got him briefly suspended from YouTube), discouraged people in the U.S. from getting vaccinated, and recently referred to the omicron variant as “basically nature’s vaccine that is running through the community” as if it were some kind of hippie herbal remedy.

Paul has, for good measure, all but explicitly accused Fauci of essentially starting the pandemic and being responsible for the deaths of millions. And, as Fauci pointed out, the senator’s words have contributed to the threats of violence that he and his family have confronted. He and many Democratic elected officials have responded to this by steadfastly supporting masks, vaccines, physical distancing and other public health measures. The issue here is disinformation from, with few exceptions, Republicans — not politicization by both sides...

why? Didnt they just tell us that anything less than an N95 doesn't work for stopping transmission?

Looks like me on the slopes back in my college days, only the jacket was KU. I wouldn’t be caught dead in Cowboys gear.

stopping? or reducing? obviously N95s are some of the best, but it isn’t black and white…there’s a gradient of effectiveness. full on respirators are better than N95s, N95s are better than surgicals, surgicals are better than triple-ply fabric, which are better than single-ply

masking in close quarters seems like a no-brainer to me, regardless of whether you’re outside or inside

https://www.sltrib.com/news/2022/01/12/ ... more-than/

...Before Tuesday, the highest number of patients simultaneously hospitalized with COVID-19 was 606, in December 2020. At that time, more of those patients required intensive care: 213, versus the 180 patients with COVID in Utah’s ICUs as of Wednesday.
But hospital staffing is tighter now than it was in 2020, Utah’s hospital administrators have said, with frightened nurses quitting without notice and hundreds of employees calling out sick as the highly-transmissible omicron variant sweeps across Utah.

...

Percentage of positive tests • Under the state’s original method, the rate is 40.6% in the past day. That is higher than the seven-day average of 35.5%.

The state’s new method counts all test results, including repeated tests of the same individual. Tuesday’s rate was 21%, lower than the seven-day average of 24.4%....

Sounds like they need to send in some scabs and bust up the nurse's union. Nurse's Unions are destroying our economy.
