Except this is fucking ridiculous because the "conspiracy theorist rubes" did not make anything up, they just noticed what was happening around them. "Maybe" being the key word. I doubt we ever really know since China will never allow a full investigation. We will forever be left to speculate. All we are left to do is assume that it could happen and try to build procedures so that we are able to monitor as well as possible.

If the NIH did, why would you feel it's a bad thing - to fund research?

And to an extent, the origin doesn't matter. My only hope is next time we learn from our mistakes we made this time around.

People were irresponsible. The media was irresponsible. It became way too politically driven.

I think the origin does matter but China will do everything to keep that origin hidden.
We as a world population won't get to learn from our mistakes because they don't give a fuck about the rest of the world.
