There are fewer than 100 hospital beds open in the KC metro at the moment. Hold onto your butts, kids.
Wife is getting possible messages to do an RN travel spot in KC. She may do it if the fees are right. Go up and stay in a hotel a few nights a week.
I certainly hope you guys are cleaning up for all this.

Further proof that the United States of America could possibly be the dumbest country per capita on the planet?

We take so much pride in so many things and yet we can't come together to try and figure out how to COLLECTIVELY slow/curb the spread of the virus - partially because we have a complete fuckwad President who has down played the virus from the start.
Sure he and his advisors created a "task force" (led by a man who has/had ZERO background in dealing with pandemics?) and he and that "task force" have never had a solid strategy.
Now they have all but given up. Fuck 'em all.

Is the US the only country confounded by the fungus. Or are other countries battling an uphill also? Just wondering.

We had more cases yesterday than South Korea has had, total.

A) No, the US is not the only country "confounded" by the "fungus".
B) I'm confident nobody thinks you're funny, cute, nor smart by calling the virus "the fungus". My guess is most people feel you're an idiot for doing as such.
C) Yes, other countries are "battling an uphill" too.
D) I'm pretty sure you are not "just wondering".
E) I wasn't discussing other countries. I was focused on the USA. Not that other countries don't matter but I live in the USA. I have co-workers, friends, and family who have contracted the virus, I have friends and co-workers who have lost loved ones at least partially due to their contracting the virus, I have friends and family members who are "essential workers" who have been affected by the virus, etc., etc., etc.
Is it not ok with you for me to focus on our country and the ineptitude of our citizens and elected "leaders"? OUR country is in as bad of shape if not worse than most if not all others. Right?
OUR country - in which many if not most of our citizens feel is the "greatest country" in the world with the best this and the best that - blah blah blah blah blah.
F) You often choose to deflect. I feel bad for you if that's how you choose to deal with issues but hey - whatever gets you through your day.

the US spends 16.9% of its GDP on healthcare (that’s 1st in the world. #2 is switzerland at 12.2%)

the US has more total cases and deaths from covid than any other country

the US is 9th in cases and deaths when adjusted for population...that is among ALL countries, not just developed ones. the countries with higher per-capita cases are bahrain, qatar, israel, panama, kuwait, peru, armenia, and chile

the countries with more deaths per capita are peru, belgium, bolivia, brazil, chile, spain, ecuador, and mexico

the US is currently second in reported total daily cases, behind only france (per capita is “better”, ranked 25th)

the US currently leads the world in daily covid deaths at 794 (23rd per-capita)

11th in per capita testing

talk about american exceptionalism...

Not really fair to compare other countries to a cesspool like the US.

Parson wants us all to die:

In other words, kids and teachers known to have been in proximity to a known positive don't have to quarantine, so long as the known positive was wearing a mask.

Given, you know, reality, this is insane.

So going shopping I see an occasional person without a mask. Wondering if those people are the ones that don’t wear seat belts either. Maybe they have a deathwish or are too stubborn. Maybe have a law regarding face masks as there is with seat belts(“Clik it or Ticket”, at least until the vaccinations have controlled the virus.

I was in a doctor's office two days ago. Two old people were coughing - while wearing masks.
No effort to cover their mouth when they were coughing - repeatedly.
These are the same people who probably remove their mask to sneeze and don't cover their noses.
The unfortunate thing is people wear masks and then think their mask 100% protects them - and others.
Of course I prefer people wear a mask if they are near me but come on people, this isn't brain surgery.

It's going to be an awful 10-12 weeks.

We're seeing the case wave from Halloween now.

The hospitalization/death wave from Halloween will be peaking right at Thanksgiving.

The hospitalization/death wave from Thanksgiving will be right at Christmas/New Years.

The hospitalization/death wave from Christmas/New Years will be peaking toward the end of January.

Maybe we will have learned by then not to have Super Bowl parties this year.

Wife and I were just talking about this. Some family members of hers wants to do Thanksgiving like normal. We're dumbfounded that they want to.

But again, she's just an RN and not a disease expert, but she thinks all schools should be shut down until January. There's going to be so many issues with kids who do go to a normal Thanksgiving gathering, the chances of them coming back to infect classmates is going to be the highest it's ever been.

Thanksgiving is the first true big holiday family gathering. Going to be a definite test and eye-opener for many. It's going to be scary, quite frankly.
