A friend from high school and her mother both have lupus, and are on chloroquine. Evidently, the recent suggestion that chloroquine may be used against COVID-19 has caused a run on the drug, and they can't find it anywhere in the South Bay of Los Angeles.

This thing, other than the fatality rate being 10-15x lower, is following the movie Contagion to a tee.

If a pharmaceutical salesperson told a doctor what Trump did today, that a drug has been "approved" to treat a disease it hasn't been approved for, they might be liable under the False Claims Act. Of course, we already learned that Trump is above the law, so in this case, he's only continuing to lie to Americans by giving them false hope and causing problems for people like your friend from high school and her mother, to try and cover his butt for totally botching his response to the pandemic.

Slight correction Feral- they would likely first get a warning letter from your friends at the FDA for illegal off-label promotion. Comes with a fairly hefty fine for each instance - they are well within their authority to count the number of people in the room (in this case anyone within earshot or TV audience estimate) as an instance.

If a drug rep is calling on my office and promoting their drug to me and my partners by leading us to believe the drug is FDA "approved", i.e., "indicated", to treat a disease that it isn't, considering the pressure they're under, I'm willing to bet they're committing the same fraud with every other doctor's office they're calling on, but maybe that only rates a "warning letter", too?

And, nothing personal zsn, but for the record, I refused to meet with pharmaceutical reps for 7 years to let them detail me, because doing so made me feel like a whore. I hated to do it since they were bringing lunch for all 50 of the doctors, nurses, and staff in the office for the opportunity to talk to the people with "the power of the pen", so I didn't accept lunch or anything else from them.

Sorry Feral my sarcasm font was faulty tonight :)

I was really meaning to say that there’s a substantial fine that accompanied these things. Off label and unapproved promotions had gotten completely out of hand and they are finally reigning them in. In my PCPs practice non specialists are not allowed to meet with reps, and that’s the official policy for one of the largest medical groups in the Bay Area.

Bordering on “take it to the Petri Dish thread” territory :)

Mrs. Fish is sick. She has a history of sinus infections, and this one looks like a sinus infection and quacks like a sinus infection.

Still, with everything going on, we’re closely monitoring temperature, pulse O2 and the emergence of symptoms suggesting greater concern.

We’ve also been texting her PCP on a regular basis, first for a prescription for the infection, and more generally to establish a record if needbe.

What a time to be alive.

Best wishes Fish. I can compare or elaborate on my and my wife's symptoms privately if it might bring peace of mind.

That report on my floor is now confirmed a positive case. I don't have the worker's name, but we have just open floor plans, and everyone collabs with each other. Further, two new floors have had confirmed cases this morning. So five floors of my building has had confirmed cases. I've also been told to further quarantine myself (not just WFH). I'm pretty much all but assuming I've been infected.

Stay safe all.

Feel free to PM, but I also don't need to pry. I've certainly read enough to understand that COVID can look like other things...right until it goes over a cliff.

But we're probably talking 2-3 sinus infections/year, that follow generally the same pattern, so at least at the moment this is one quacky-sounding duck.

I work with a guy that used to be the facility manager for the local hospital. The current staff has contactes him about possibly producing parts and pieces for ventilators (he has 3d printer, CNC machine etc) they also inquired about his thoughts on using non medical grade vents (ie welding supply hoods for underwater welding/enclosed welding) and are investigating the ability to outfit thoae with a hepa filter. They told him they have 4 ventilators.....for the entire 4 county region they serve.

My general symptoms I posted are pretty much the same. I will say, I wasn't prepare for whatever is going on in my lungs themselves. That's when I realized something was different. I can feel something inside them, and it pools up like I said in certain positions.

Take care of yourselves.
