McDuffie was a big target for them ( hence trading away a 1st, 3rd and 4th ) and they nailed that one.

If Brian Thomas Jr is as good at his position as McDuffie, sending a 3rd rounder would be beyond worth it. That's the equivalent of like a 1400+ yard 8 TD+ receiving season.
There's been less than 30 rookie receivers who have even gotten 1000+ yards in their rookie season so anything close to that would be great.

That was my issue with their draft last season.
( beyond picking FAU over Branch )
Trading up for guys who, for every mock/ranking there was online, likely would have been available when the pick fell to them.

Maybe the Chiefs knew something we didn't. Maybe they just really really loved the guy and wanted zero chance of him getting taken. I just think we gave up too much to move for no reason.

That's different than moving up for McDuffie who likely wouldn't have been there when it came to us a couple drafts back.

I meant as good as McDuffie is now ( 1st team All Pro ) - so by his 2nd season.

I'd be down with whoever we pick at that spot having a season like that by Year Two. That would be fantastic. Maybe Rice puts up something close to those numbers next season.

That's what makes this draft pretty key with a exponential ceiling if you hit on a WR.

You can see the path of Rashee Rice as a pro bowl WR.
If you get another one?

Mahomes is happy.

Yeah, you figure there's 6-9 WRs that are graded as 1st round "worthy" in Harrison, Nabers, Odunze, Thomas, Legette, Mitchell, McConkey, Coleman and Franklin. History shows that only a few of those guys are going to end up being top tier guys although much of that is where they go from a HC/OC/QB combo perspective as much as their own talent. A talented player has a lot better shot of reaching his potential in KC than he does in other spots.

I hope KC drafts a WR in Round 1 and we get to watch it play out.

I love Odunze.
He'd be the dream.

What do you think of the Chiefs signing RB Austin Ekeler instead of signing a free agent WR so they can spend more money on bringing back Sneed and Chris Jones? With the deflated market for RBs and the glut of free agent RBs, I think KC could get the same production pass catching wise for cheaper than a comparable free agent WR. Get him on a cheap one year contract to let him try to rebuild his market value.

Yeah, the few times I saw Washington play I thought he was amazing.

Michael Thomas released.
He's lost quite a bit but worth kicking the can for a 1 year/5 million deal?

I get nervous about players who have been as injured as Thomas. He hasn't played more than 10 games in a season since 2019.

Yep.
Maybe an incentivized deal built on a low base pay.

When on the field he is an extremely reliable catcher.

I'm in. I think we set up the draft by getting some weapons in Free Agency. We get OT from Cowboys and then start trying to get ring chasers. Thomas, Ekeler guys like that.

I'm starting to lean drafting Ladd McConkey.

I hope that doesn’t mean they are out on Bolton.

Bolton is not a free agent to next year. We are most likely out on Gay.

Willie Gay Jr.'s replacement. If what we got out of Tranquill last year is his floor since he was new to the team then KC traded up.

This is what I think too.
Willie Gay is gone and we loose our best QB spy but Tranquill does a number of other things better.

The only game we need a spy for is Baltimore and we held Lamar Jackson to 58 yards rushing in the playoffs. Gay was out for that game and Tranquill led the team with 8 solo tackles. That game probably sealed Gay's fate in KC to be honest.
