it seems this year more than most any other that there is parity outside of Gonzaga and maaaaaybe Baylor

without and geographic/fan benefit, i just don’t see how seeding matters all that much

Well, if we think we can seriously make a run, it's better to avoid the top dogs as long as you can ( because their chances to get upset increase with every game played ), so if you can be a 3 and avoid playing a 1, that is worth something.

I also think sometimes that 5's very much tend to be teams that could have some argument to be low 3's or high 4's - while a 6 just seems like a step down from all that.

In 2019, you look at those 6's, and as rough as our 2019 team was, we could have beaten them, instead of a red hot deadly Auburn squad.

The jump from 4 to 3 I think is a big one.
The jump from 5 to 4 is not.

Good point here by Jesse. KU is a likely dog to quite a few teams, but also has the potential to play with all the teams. Weird spot for sure.

This team can beat anyone. Or lose to the field. Shooting needs to improve. Need decent refs. Play stifling defense. UTEP at home was a test.

Why I'd like to jump out of the 4/5.

The 5's on one bracket:
Tech - 21 kenpom
Florida State - 14
Creighton - 17
Colorado - 16

The 6's:
USC - 15
Oregon - 35
Tennessee - 23
Oklahoma - 37

here's your friendly reminder that Gonzaga hasn't played a ranked team since December 26.

Oh you want the 3 or the 6. The 4/5 is the worst seed you can have, IMO if you are not a 1.

Palm has VTech as a 6.
You'd take them as your 2nd round opponent in a heartbeat over the 5's listed above.
VTech has had scheduling issues all season and lost by double digits at home to Georgia Tech a couple weeks ago.

We played Gonzaga the first game of the year. Score ended up being within like 10. Gonzaga was a lot closer to their ceiling in November than we were.

Not saying we are better, but the gap between Gonzaga and the rest of the country isn't as big as some would believe. That's a very experienced team outside of Suggs. Rest of country has made bigger strides.

Of course, in this weird/throwaway season, mid-major Gonzaga winning would fit.

yeah, not many would be surprised if zags run the table.

nor would many be surprised if zags get punked early.

Same thing happened when Wichita State beat them in round 2 back like 8 years ago. They were something like 30-something and 2 in regular season. Only 2 losses to some good teams in non-con action. Then lost in the 2nd round.

I truly don't get the seeding strategies this year. There should not be a 2 seed difference between KU and West Va.

Because they "KU sucks" narrative has proven quite durable. And lord knows it was earned. Is it still deserved? No. But I'm not sure what can really change the narrative other than a tournament run culminating with a Baylor win.

To be clear, I'd put our seeding odds right now as something like:

1 - 5%
2 - 15%
3 - 60%
4 - 20%
5 - 0%

I think seeding matter more than ever without the geography coming into play. Hell, whether you're the 4th 3 seed or the 1st 3 seed could matter a great deal.
I only came to kick some ass...

Take some off of 3 and a bit more on the 4 and I agree.

1. 2% - Win the whole fucking thing
2. 20% - Make it to Championship Game
3. 50% - Win one, lose one
4. 25% - Close loss
5. 3% - A big blowout loss Thursday

Is this the year they do a true S-curve?

What is the realm of possible opponents on Thursday (OSU pending)? OU, TCU, KSU, ISU?

I think an OU loss does not mean dropping to a 5 and we aren't losing to the other 3.

Isn't KU strictly playing either OU or ISU? They don't reseed.

They don’t re-seed, right? So it’s OU or ISU?

OSU still not approved to play. I'm guessing they will, but it would be a scramble to reschedule.
