Nowhere To go
Re: Nowhere To go
I was thinking, there can’t be answers to those questions that actually make sense, but that one totally does.
Leave it to the ncaa to not make sense of it.

but why did DMac have to go all the way to Detroit just for a covid test?
Re: Nowhere To go
This might maybe end up being a positive thing, no pun intended; who knows what will happen in the NCAA Tournament...maybe some weird match-up problems, maybe McCormick reverts back to his old ways for a stretch or two, maybe KU has to play some extensive small-ball, maybe Mitch will have to play some extended minutes.

Re: Nowhere To go
What a goddamned bummer the McCormack news is. Just sucks the wind out of the sails.
Re: Nowhere To go
Glass half full says, it gives us yet another excuse to shrug off the whole conference tournament. If we win, great, and if we loose, well, we were down 2 guys that should be back for the big dance.
Though it’s not the best time to tinker with lineups, it gives us a chance for some reps to Dajuan and Bryce, when it’s become more and more apparent we’ll need the guard play going forward (and Marcus may be better off the ball)
It’s a prompt for small ball, which could be more and more of a weapon going forward (though we’ll prob ride Mitch for like 30+ minutes a night anyway)
It’s not exactly like it’s the first time we’ve been missing personnel in the conference tourney.
Particularly this year, I can only imagine Self has been prepared for this sorta news all along.

Except we are often already a 1/2 seed so we don't need the B12 tournament as much as we do this season.

Re: Nowhere To go
How much could really swing though?
Re: Nowhere To go
Win the thing and quite possibly a 2 - and maybe the best 2 on the s curve.
Loose the first game and possibly, but very unlikely, a 5 - but definitely a 4.

Re: Nowhere To go
Do you think we’ll get any wiggle room from the committee about “but they were down two players including their best starter?”
Or do you think they’ll use it as a chance to double down on the “blue bloods are down” narrative?

Re: Nowhere To go
Might be a factor for a tie breaker type deal.
But several teams could jump us in NET score - we are at 14 right now - if we fell closer to 20, we're definitely not getting a 3.
I'd like to avoid the possible 5 and 1 seeds.

Re: Nowhere To go
I dunno, I’d rather go toe to toe with a 1 seed - which we’ve shown we can beat, just a couple games ago!
Self teams get up for those games.
I’m paradoxically more worried about coming out cold and having to play catch-up against some overachieving mid major or something

Re: Nowhere To go
But as a whole, I’m not that worried about particular seed. The tournament is such a crap shoot either way. Favorable matchups matter more, but even then.
Re: Nowhere To go
That's something to consider. Self teams show up for big games. And I love them. They're usually great games. And it's easier to stomach a loss (roiboi).ousdahl wrote: ↑Wed Mar 10, 2021 1:41 pm I dunno, I’d rather go toe to toe with a 1 seed - which we’ve shown we can beat, just a couple games ago!

But it's also stupid to want a 1 seed if instead you could play a 16 or even a 3.
