Bracketology 2020-21
Re: Bracketology 2020-21
Wait, aren't we thinking/rooting or OU to beat Misery anyway?
Isn't this a moot point?

Yes.
Let's hope OU wins it's first 3 games and Drake and Grand Canyon it's first 2.

So not only are we affected, but now the opponent of the team we most hate is as well.

Coincidence that's the last game KU played with a positive player?

Well, we'll never know, but occam's razor and all. Maybe the OU player gave it to Jalen, we can't know.NDballer13 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 4:33 pm Coincidence that's the last game KU played with a positive player?
But, this is why it was so dumb to not have a buffer weak. Games guarantees maskless, close contact. You could potentially knock out half a conference's bids in one tourney.
Re: Bracketology 2020-21
To my knowledge, not a single team has been knocked out.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 4:37 pmWell, we'll never know, but occam's razor and all. Can we get an NCA Tourney Covid Tracker thread going? I’ve got office pools to win!

They seem to have taken enough care in their protocols to not have any teams get knocked out of the tourney at all, let alone "half a conference". People just seem to take any chance to drag the ncaa they can find. If they took a week off in between and some players went back to campus and got covid then someone would drag the ncaa for giving the players too much idle time. So it goes.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 7:42 pmOK?twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 7:13 pmTo my knowledge, not a single team has been knocked out.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Mar 17, 2021 4:37 pm

We have a tourney starting today. As should be expected of a tourney played this season, regardless of when they play it, there will be some teams that aren't at 100% due to the impacts of covid. Let's just get to it and get it rolling.

Re: Bracketology 2020-21
If this was going to be an issue no matter the time, why not take the buffer week/10 days and make it as minimal as possible? This isn't the same as a standard injury that could effect a team and say well, he could he have rolled his ankle in practice too.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 9:00 amThey seem to have taken enough care in their protocols to not have any teams get knocked out of the tourney at all, let alone "half a conference". Conference tourneys are unnecessary to begin with, even more so when you're primary goal is to stop the spread of a virus that's already canceled one tourney and saw many players/teams opt out of playing.
Re: Bracketology 2020-21
Especially since not every conference tourney was held at the same time. The mid-majors and small conferences had a big advantage because they had more time than the bigger conferences.

Mixed feelings. While I actually agree that conference tourneys are generally unnecessary, we are looking at it from our perspective as KU Basketball fans.NDballer13 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 9:13 amIf this was going to be an issue no matter the time, why not take the buffer week/10 days and make it as minimal as possible? What about those teams who are fighting for a spot? Or the networks who employ people to broadcast them, and/or the sponsors, and/or the hotels and restaurants in the areas, and/or etc.. etc.?
An argument could be made that the regular non conference season was unnecessary. We can go on and on. Most people would be in agreement that we wanted as full of a season as possible. Sure there are ways it could have been (and perhaps should have been) abbreviated but the NCAA made a decision and teams did what they could to adhere to it and play games.
I don't blame Conference tournaments for causing the issues we are facing today in terms of players (and possibly entire teams) missing games in the tournament, the virus caused the issues.
If the roof collapsed during a play in game tonight, then people would argue how the play in games are unnecessary. The play in game/s didn't cause the roof to collapse.

You should read what I actually posted instead of putting your own words into it. Not going to respond to these alternative points you’re trying to make.twocoach wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 9:00 amThey seem to have taken enough care in their protocols to not have any teams get knocked out of the tourney at all, let alone "half a conference". Re: Bracketology 2020-21
The finals of a major conference tourney are going to feature 2 teams that the ncaa knows will 100% make the tourney. No good reason to make it so difficult on them.
Re: Bracketology 2020-21
Weren’t enough games this year as it was. A buffer week should have been a no-brainer. Not having one is like suspending players by not giving them recovery time. COVID-19 has played hell on the whole season.
Re: Bracketology 2020-21
Off the top of my head, 2011 UConn says hello. My guess is there are other "bubble" teams that had to get to the finals of their "major conference" tournament finals to make the NCAA tournament.CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 9:40 amThe finals of a major conference tourney are going to feature 2 teams that the ncaa knows will 100% make the tourney. 2011 UConn made the tourney. Just like its Big East final opponent Louisville.
