team-wise, it was the absolute inability to get buckets. and it isn’t like we were going against world-beater defenses 24-7...the guys, for whatever reason, just failed to make many shots that they should/could have

missed open jumpers, missed layups

more than anything else, our guys need to be putting up 1,000 shots/day from now till november
We just cannot have two non-shooters on the floor from this point forward. It results in every shot being contested.

and that situation was exacerbated by having two streaky shooters and DMac

Och and Braun only occasionally got theirs. DMac, when good was borderline great...but he also had his fair share of wtf black hole moments

2020 will be the greatest 'what if' in KU sports history but are we going to hang on to that like we do the 2008 Natty and excuse just how bad Self has been in the tourney since? Is there any guarantee they would have won last year? How do we know they wouldn't have got to the F4 and then got steam rolled by a team like Nova. Yeah, this year we got a three seed but in the end what did that get us? A 30+ pt beat down by SC. At some point, we as a fan base are going to have to decide if we value regular season consistency over tournament success in March and April.

I'm not saying its panic time but it also might not be a bad time to start to re-evaluate your staff and what they are bringing to the table because like you said, CnB clearly this roster isn't it.
Good point/s.
My worthless 2 cents.
We have had incredible success with the current staff BUT..... To me, they are stale.
Maybe they have reached the expiration date?
I would have no problem if Self stays (which I assume he will) if he brought in new blood to assist him.
So, unless Self brings in a new staff, you want him gone?

Good stuff. How stale did the staff feel a year ago?
Do I need to apologize for not being married to Bill Self (and the staff) nor believing Bill Self is God?
I am in the minority but I would be ok if he left. I would give him all the praise and gratitude he deserves for his tenure at KU and I would wish him the best.
I'm someone who appreciated Larry Brown but was ok when he left and was happy with Roy and appreciated Roy, just as I was happy with Bill and appreciate him but our program is Kansas. Not Bill Self. He can be replaced and we can still be just fine.
How stale did I feel the staff was last year? Stale enough that if the NCAA didn't drag its feet we very well may have been on probation and not played in the tournament. Stale enough to realize that even though we may have had an excellent chance to win a Natty, we also may have lost early and then the "magical" season would have been nothing more than just another great KU season.
Ok, better answer - One year less stale than I feel they were this season.

There are few people here that have been more critical than I have of Bill Self this season. And many seasons. It's just not about absolutes. He is not above criticism but he is also the best person to run this program right now by a significant margin.

I think so, too, but I also wouldn't be mad about him undertaking a down-to-the-studs teardown, particularly if we're going to have a lost season next year anyway. Start over. "If I got the job today, I would..."

You'd probably say goodbye to Norm and/or KT first, actually.

KT because, well, you're starting over, so 'nuff said.

Norm has tremendous experience but Bill doesn't need a Phil Martelli on his bench like Juwan Howard does. Needs a young nerd.

Especially when our shooters are also so passive.

You could play 2 of Harris, Garrett, or Bryce if Och or Braun weren't so easy to completely shut down.

We need a playmaker.

Definitely in agreement that KT should be the first to go. Hasn't brought in a recruit in who knows how long but that is Self's right hand man. Even though the optics wouldn't look real great if KT is 'let go' or 'retires' with the pending investigation.

It is pretty telling to me that no one is calling asking for anyone off of Self's staff. While I can appreciate the consistency some fresh blood and I hope of new ideas wouldn't be the worst idea.

I don't get why players (especially bigs), like DMac don't use the friggin back board when throwing up a shot 2-3 ft out. DMac had several that hit the side of the rim or hit the back of the rim. Use the friggin back board, that is what it is there for, you know the little orange square. Aim at it and bank in every time.

i was a master of using the glass back in my day

it would frustrate the shit out of defenders

it really is a lost art, and i blame dukie v and his “nothing but nylon” schtick...it counts the same whether it goes off the glass or not

Bill is far too loyal to let Norm or KT go. Just don't see it happening. They'd have to go on their own.

Yeah I used to play hoops at the local YMCA (pre-COVID) and I'm a lefty and I would bank it all the time. Nobody could defend my drop back bank shot from the left outside 4ft...lol. Of course, I always sucked going to the right...lol.
