Oh, I absolutely think - for the time being, anyway - the rest of the world is WAY ahead of most Americans, in understanding precisely the meaning of what happened twenty days ago today.BiggDick wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 12:51 pmwaddya mean, "about to..."?

Tho, I'll agree, this country reelecting Trump is not likely to help our reputation internationally.

I mean...sure?
I almost added a bit about how your perception seems to yet again be far too rooted in something simply partisan.
I'm afraid that last post corroborates that.

Re: Let’s have a war!
I just couldn't help but notice you doubled down on the part about Trump bringing a bad rep (which is valid), yet also disregarded the part about how we've already been hurting our rep largely due to irrevocable horrors we're already inflicting on human beings (which is something less than valid)

Ah. So you were simply looking for an opening to wedge your Gaza purity test into the discussion.BiggDick wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 1:17 pm I just couldn't help but notice you doubled down on the part about Trump bringing a bad rep (which is valid), yet also disregarded the part about how we've already been hurting our rep largely due to irrevocable horrors we're already inflicting on human beings (which is something less than valid)
Re: Let’s have a war!
yea. I'll agree! Reelecting Trump isn't gonna help a thing.
But to think our nation's reputation is compromised by something as simple as one candidate or another, and to think some "Gaza purity test" should only be part of the discussion if it's to criticize Trump, is to be so drunk off partisan koolaid that you might as well be Overlander after switching from back-alley manhattans to speakeasy margs.

Go back and read the posts, pretending that you are NOT horny to wedge a Gaza purity test into every single discussion.BiggDick wrote: ↑Mon Nov 25, 2024 1:38 pm yea. I'll agree! Reelecting Trump isn't gonna help a thing.

What you will see is that one poster - YOU, in a post that muddled issues together - yanked the discussion in that direction.
And then when I responded to your muddled-issues post, you demanded that we stay on the hijacked flight.
No thank you.
Re: Let’s have a war!
I did go back and read the posts.
I brought up a war conflict in the war thread, specifically by responding to a point about our nation's reputation with an article about our nation's reputation. That's relevant here!
You're the one comparatively a little more all over the place by bringing up things like, illegal immigration and essentially prison labor, all while doubling down on narrowly partisan talking points.
That's to say, I'm afraid your accusations about posts that muddled issues issues together to yank discussions in other directions, might actually just be projection.

A discussion was being had about Trump's immigration plans.
In the context of that discussion about Trump's immigration plans, I talked about things that will happen, if ever, in the future.
You grabbed the wheel and yanked the discussion right on back to your hobby horse.

Ousdahl just can't stop.
He has been at this (steady) since 6 or 7am. What has been accomplished here?

Have we fallen into a mesmerized state that makes us accept as inevitable that which is inferior or detrimental, as though having lost the will or the vision to demand that which is good?
Re: Let’s have a war!
I don't think Ous is ignorant.
I think he's extremely passionate about a niche issue, to the point that he sees most everything on the Politics board through the lens of that niche issue. And he makes most of his posts on the Politics board using that issue as a touchstone.
If I made most every thread I participate in on the Basketball board about my views on amateurism, I would expect to get treated about like how Ous gets treated here.
But I don't, because (1) I'm confident that I've made my opinions on amateurism much more than well-known, to (admittedly!) a point of obnoxiousness, (2) from a board atmosphere standpoint, I don't desire to have the same exact bitter fight on amateurism over and over again (I fully acknowledge that there's no one who bears MORE blame for that being the case for a while, than me) and (3) from an interesting-discussions standpoint, I want to be able to talk about Basketball things separate from amateurism, even if (personally) I do think of that issue as relating to most other off-court issues we discuss on the Basketball board.
And what I have found is that people who do not see amateurism the way that I do, have much more civil conversations with me about that issue when there is something specific and new to discuss, because we're no longer in a perma-DefCon-2 on that issue.
