This isn't about making up number of attendees at an inauguration.

This isn't about fake news, Trump University, ketchup on well done steaks or number of golf vacations.

He just keeps digging a hole. It should get worse and worse. But somehow, by the grace of Hannity/Ingraham/Levin/ he's allowed to continue.

9/11 was rough, but there was a sense that it was a one-off event.

Fall 2002 was the weirdest, most-panicked moment I can recall. No one knew when or where. You could be mowing your lawn in Maryland, at the Home Depot in Falls Church, or getting gas in Fredericksburg and in an instant you were dead.

Heard Malvo just got married. Eligible for parole in 4 years?
I member talking to my brother Colonel Illiniwok during that event. It shook him more than his time in Iraq. He knew how to take care of himself in a war and he felt safe at the Pentagon, but his family was going to school and going to work and no one knew what was coming and when.

I just landed a 1 month vacation. To start. With nothing to work from home. Looks like my garage will be the real winner in March.

and what happens this fall? i'll admit to not having looked at corona virus behavior generally, as far as seasonal fluctuations, but if this is only the first iteration, i hate to see how it behaves after a bit of evolution

I don't. I'd probably add time to their number.

tests are one thing

what about treatment?

again, this is so much more complex than "just" mortality (not that you're distilling down to just that). even if one who gets infected doesn't die, there is a non-negligible chance their health and lives are altered for months if not their lifetime

WHETHER THE CORONAVIRUS that’s quickly spreading around the world will follow the flu season and subside with spring’s arrival is unsatisfyingly uncertain, and many scientists say it’s too soon to know how the dangerous virus will behave in warmer weather.

Dozens of viruses exist in the coronavirus family, but only seven afflict humans. Four are known to cause mild colds in people, while others are more novel, deadly, and thought to be transmitted from animals like bats and camels. Health officials have labeled this new virus SARS-CoV-2 and its disease COVID-19.

The prospect that summer could stave off a pandemic is enticing. Last month, President Donald Trump tweeted about China’s efforts to contain the virus, saying they would be successful, “especially as the weather starts to warm.”

Viruses that cause influenza or milder coronavirus colds do tend to subside in warmer months because these types of viruses have what scientists refer to as “seasonality,” so the president’s comments have some scientific backing. But it’s highly uncertain that SARS-CoV-2 will behave the same way. Those currently studying the disease say their research is too early to predict how the virus will respond to changing weather. (See how coronavirus compares to flu, Ebola and other outbreaks.)

[...]

Will Warm Weather Curb Coronavirus?

In temperate climates, the seasonal flu tends to flare in winter and recede as spring arrives. But what about the new coronavirus? Will the arrival of warmer weather keep it in check? U.S. President Donald Trump has weighed in, saying in a televised address that April sunshine could chase away the scourge. Health experts say it’s more complicated than that. Just because outbreaks of influenza wilt with seasonal changes doesn’t mean a different respiratory virus will behave in the same way.

1. Is climate a factor?

It’s too early to know. The new coronavirus, which causes a respiratory disease called Covid-19, has infected more than 120,000 people worldwide, but it only appeared in central China at the end of last year. Officials of the World Health Organization said March 5 there’s no reason to believe temperature will play a role in the outbreak but that the subject was worth investigating.

2. Is there evidence either way?

A few researchers have prepared analyses on the subject, but none have been yet been published in scholarly journals, which require papers to be vetted by experts working in the same field. A group of U.S. and Iranian researchers concluded that the places Covid-19 infection has mostly taken hold so far -- such as Wuhan in central China, Milan and Seattle -- share similarly mild humidity and temperatures ranging from about 5 to 11 degrees Celsius (41 to 52 degrees Fahrenheit) in winter. In hotter, more humid places like Bangkok the virus has mainly been seen in people who brought it in from outside, and has not spread quickly through the community, the researchers said. However, they said predictions should be regarded with “extreme caution.”
