I played against his dad from 8th grade through high school. He was a legit D1 prospect who played one year at Washington before transferring to KU and focusing on studies. Had all kinds of ability, but was a very quiet and passive kid who was reluctant to be the dominant player he could have been.
Dad is 6'8" and older brother is 6'9", so he is likely to grow three or four more inches in the next year or two. Mom is an multi-time all-conference Mizzou basketball grad who played some WNBA ball. Believe he also has an uncle who played at Mizzou.
Lots of athletic ability in his genes. A lot depends on whether he inherited Dad's temperament or Mom's. If nothing else, Self locked up a really good player to run against the starters in practice. Definitely nowhere near a Tyler-type player.
