The Work From Home/Quarantine Thread

Post by Deleted User 307 »

This thread is to talk about how those who must be inside are handling the situation. How we are keeping sane, or the stupid things we are doing to entertain ourselves.

Me, I have two puzzles coming (1,000 and 1,500 piece) and bought some new slippers from Zappos I'm waiting for.

Wife and I luckily have different work spaces across our apt, and we haven't had any issues yet. The cat loves jacking with my desk.

Probably going to play the hell out of video games over the next few months. Tried CoD Warzone last night, but it hasn't really clicked.

Also reading Bill Bryson's The Body. Not as good as A Short History, but it's good. About 90 pages into that one.

I'm running low on TV, but might try Killing Eve or pick back up Handmaiden's Tale Season 2. I need to see what the wife is interested in, since we only have one TV, although we both watch TV on tablets as well, and sometimes trade off if we are not into the same show.

I laughed at one of Drew Carey's jokes on the Price is Right yesterday. Then text a friend about the joke.

Going to be a long few weeks.

I've been trying to keep a normal routine. I set my alarm, get up, let my boxer out to potty, make his breakfast and jump in the shower. The only thing I haven't done is shave, so I'm looking pretty shabby.

I then make coffee and eat some breakfast, usually just a banana and a smoothie. Then log on.

Haven't really been out much except to the grocery store occasionally or Walgreens/CVS. Kind of just laying low.

I usually work till 4:30 or 5:00 then make dinner, drink a couple beers, eat and veg out and watch a movie or something. I have been going to bed a lot earlier, I mean like sometimes I go to bed at 9 just because I don't feel like watching anything else or I just like my sleep.

Mrs. Fish and I have separate desks set up in what used to be my home office. The older kids (12 and 9) are taking 90-minute shifts with the baby, ~8am-4pm (other than lunch and nap time), and doing pretty well.

Doing our best to send the kids outside as much as possible, whether to shoot hoops or ride bikes, etc.

It's just weird. I mean I see neighbors talking to each other from across the street. Everybody's afraid to approach anyone. Everything is shut down. I mean, I literally have zero social life right now. I talk to my boxer more than anyone else. He's gets fed up with me and goes out and lays on the deck.

Holed up in a rather spacious room, with all needed work accessories. The #$(%U monitor is really jumpy, so laptop screen it is. Most of our telecons/meetings include video, so there is social contact. The room is a little on the cool side because we have the thermostat set low downstairs as it's just the two of us and we mostly stay upstairs. As it's March in NorCal, a sweatshirt is mostly sufficient. It's great not to spend nearly 2 hours on the road each day on the commute. So, sleeping in a bit, and then hunkered down for work. There has been some much needed rain during the past week, so no walks/bike rides but I will do that once the rain stops.

After a decade of retirement, I'm used to spending a day at home. The difference is I used to have the option of going wherever, now it's all closed. It's house arrest without the bracelet.

Work has its challenges right now as I am trying to train a new analyst in the middle of this. He has no experience on our specific systems so it is really time intensive trying to teach him how to do things over the phone.

Other than that, it's just been strange seeing and hearing the wife and kids all day. Honestly, it's been nice other than all the money we're losing from my wife having her ice time cancelled. Lots of board games and family time. I have seen my teenager more this week than I normally do. That's been fun.

Spending time in my shop milling wood for my carpenters and working on sculptures for my next show in the Crossroads.

The only major change is that those who peruse this board will have to stomach even more of my banal posts.

I replaced a leaky faucet yesterday. Looked so easy on the youtube tutorial. Fucker took half a day to disassemble, 20 minutes to replace.

Bastard. But I feel great about it.

Usually you can just replace the cartridges. They only last a few years. The hot always goes first. I order them from Amazon.

Figured office would be empty due to must-work-from-home policy so came in.

About half the office apparently had the same thought.

Illinois going on lockdown starting tomorrow so won't be able to do that anymore.
