It might have worked if they didnt hire a conman instead of a businessman.

Right.
What's also right are basic concepts. Such as....
Buy low sell high.
Buy the rumor sell the news.
Two rules of investing, Rule one – never lose money. Rule two – never forget rule one.
Rich people make money when the stock market goes up, rich people make even more money when the stock market goes down.

It will be interesting to see if, over the next ~ 10 years or so, like republicans have continually blamed President Obama for. all of the increase in the deficit during his term despite the economy he was handed, democrats will play the same game with Trump's unemployment numbers peak that's going to soar, without consideration for the pandemic that occurred?

Don't worry, Trump's got this:

19 times Trump called jobs numbers ‘fake’ before they made him look good

Feral wrote: Sat Mar 21, 2020 10:05 pm In today's installment of: "You Can't Make This Shit Up!", the Wall Street Journal ran a column today authored by the two people behind former Kansas Governor Brownback's "real live” economic "experiment", Arthur Laffer and Stephen Moore. You remember Brownback's economic "experiment", don't you? It resulted in cuts to Medicaid, education, infrastructure, two downgrades of Kansas’s bond ratings, and a budget shortfall of almost $900 million.

Laffer is the father of "supply side economics", the economic theory that Reagan implemented and republicans have hung their economic hat on for the last 4 decades. Adopting Laffer's theory resulted in Reagan nearly tripling the national debt, GW Bush doubling the national debt, and then there's Trump and his gobsmacking deficits extending as far as the forecaster's eyes can see. And, although I'm sure it's just a coincidence, over the time that republicans have had their erection for Laffer and cut taxes mainly for those already at the top, real wages have barely increased and the difference between the haves and the have almost nothings has widened, and widened, and widened.

Considering their track record, other than the fact that the WSJ is owned by the same person who owns Fox News, that festering abscess on mankind that echoes and catapults Trump's lies to his rabid base, can anyone tell me why anyone with a brain still listens to these two?

Sam Stein

Trump called Art Laffer three times in one night to talk about this, according to Laffer.

I hope we are able to avoid some of the major mistakes made with TARP, especially since this relief package is looking to be nearly 3 times the size. I dont mind the Dems hitting the pause button if the result is that this is an improvement over that.

nothing that isn’t directly related to the current crisis should be included, and the spending should be completely transparent

none of the bs on airline emissions, and none of the provisions accompanied by “just trust” so-and-so to dole out funds in a fair and objective way

and i’m sure there were similar conversations on the other side of the isle as well

it’s disgusting no matter who it’s coming from. they should all be ashamed of themselves, and hopefully their constituency holds them accountable...but we all know that won’t happen

Once again, DC tries to deflect from the total incompetence of his Republican president and his lunatic statements today about reopening everything by finding one Democrat to pick apart.

According to the article, Jim Clyburn's terrible "vision" is 100% broadband coverage. Given that we're hearing about the virus possibly returning off and on until we have a vaccine and about local outbreaks, that seems reasonable. Considering that schools may find the need for distance learning, also seems like a rational vision. Not to mention the increased use of telemedicine for rural areas as their hospitals are overcome.

Reading about how South Korea handled the situation with the virus in the NYT, 100% broadband seems important.
