and just because you have antibodies doesn’t mean you don’t get sick...or that you can’t infect others...or how long any level of immunity may last

You’re right! We should all be locked in our homes until it is 100% safe to go back to work and school and church. That should only be, well, never.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 10:03 am and just because you have antibodies doesn’t mean you don’t get sick...or that you can’t infect others...or how long any level of immunity may last

Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
why would work school and church never be safe, cuz of our lax gun control?

Life is a calculated risk. No way around it. Ask Howard Hughes.

Proof, once again, that unless Psych puts words in your mouth and/or distorts what you said, he has almost nothing to say. He doesn't give a shit that opening up the country puts you and your family and health care workers on the front lines trying to deal with the pandemic without having the proper PPE at greater risk, because he's too emotionally immature to deal with having his life changed for several weeks.HouseDivided wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 11:21 amYou’re right! On behalf of the health care workers and others that you're comfortable prolonging and increasing exposure to the coronavirus to, grow up.

I am glad I do not have a job that requires me to be in charge of making these life and death decisions. This is endlessly complex and every decisions made or not made could have dire consequences. I do not envy those in charge at all. I hope leaders are gathering as much data from ALL of the factors invved and weighing it appropriately.
Ultimately, we will all make our own decisions once given the opportunity to resume our lives. This certainly has changed the way I look around at my little world.

You're advocating that we start opening up our society. IMO, and the opinion of public health experts, that would put people at greater risk of becoming infected.
That's not "putting words" in your mouth, that's calling you out for not caring enough about what's good for us all, i.e., to wait.
Health care workers don't want people to clap for them, they want them to stay home:

And I would argue that understanding that a calculated risk is necessary in order to avert Great Depression 2.0 and “not giving a sh*t” are two very different things. I’m sure it is hard for you to imagine from your seat of privilege, but many people are in a world of economic hurt right now, and the point of no return is very near.Feral wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 2:38 pmYou're advocating that we start opening up our society. Just wait until the folks complaining about their personal freedoms are told that the best way to open an area's economy is to have everyone submit to a blood test to check their antibodies and then have their actions and interactions tracked. I am sure they'll be FINE with that...Feral wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 2:38 pmYou're advocating that we start opening up our society. Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
That's just it Psych. We can't "calculate the risk", because we don't have enough information. Are you really too ignorant to know that, or, do you just want what you want when you want it, now, and screw everyone else?Psych wrote:"...I would argue that understanding that a calculated risk is necessary ..."
"...I’m sure it is hard for you to imagine from your seat of privilege..."
You, repeatedly resorting to using "privilege" as a cudgel, is reminiscent of Trump trying to use "I closed the US to vaChina", to hide any and all of his other mistakes, and just as lame. I'll put my origin story up against almost anyone's, Psych. If I recall, you didn't have the best childhood either. Sorry about that. Maybe that's what's made you so antisocial?

Re: Where's the petri dish thread?
I'm fine with staying at home for a period of time - it makes sense to me.
This however:
"...have everyone submit to a blood test to check their antibodies and then have their actions and interactions tracked..."
I will not be fine with that.
