Anybody else obsessed with nest and ring products?

Post by shindig »

I definitely am...and it all started with the ring doorbell. Now I have the ring alarm system, ring motion detected flood lights, both large and smaller ones, nest thermostat and nest smoke and carbon monoxide detector.

I need help. I keep thinking I need to add more to my arsenal.

I have the Nest thermostat that I got free through KCPL, and it's really great.

My only issue is my voluntarily enslavement to the Apple ecosystem and Nest doesn't play friendly with that given it's Google parent.

What do you use as a hub? I've been contemplating pulling the trigger if I see a deep discount on the Google Nest Hub.

I just use the Apps (one for ring and one for nest), that keeps all your systems in snyc, if you choose. I also have Google Fiber internet.

I don't really use all the notification stuff, like motion movement and all the notifications. At first I did, but then it got annoying with my phone chiming every time I let my dog out and he set off the motion lights or camera.

The ring alarm I generally only set when I'm out of town and I don't pay for police/fire service, at least not now, but I do get phone notifications. My neighbor has the same set up and the police aren't too happy when you accidently set them off in the middle of the night.

Our ecosystem is a bit of a mess.

Nest for HVAC.

Rachio for sprinklers.

Simplisafe for security.

Eufy for the outdoor cameras.

I’m not that paranoid.

I don't really consider myself paranoid, but I'm sort of a gadget geek and making my house more secure and smart at the same time. Adjusting everything with your phone or checking up on it when out of town or at work is pretty convenient.

I am actually paranoid that my robot vac takes weird routes just to piss me off and make me spend more money on a new battery.

Lol...I don't have one of those. I think my boxer would freak out by it, he's pretty skittish. I have a ring camera in my living room that I use just to check on him and see what he is doing while I'm at work, and I can talk into it. I did that once and he freaked out, walking around the house looking for me and out the window and whining. I felt bad, so I've never done it again.
