This is something I'm not proud of...
...but during stay-home, I have enjoyed watching "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives".
Kind of a lot.
Not sure why it's so appealing -- b/c it was filmed during normal times, or the decadent, tempting dishes -- but I have watched hrs of it the past few wks.

Like the show.

Though, as is common, the guy fieri hate is way over the top. He's cheesy and looks silly, he's not the devil.

Yes, and the branded restaurants he's opened have been largely panned.
But, man, there are (or were, which is sad) some cafes out there that were churning out some goooood looking food!
And he got to sample it. For money.

I still watch it. I like the DDD's he visits. He annoys the hell outta me. Plus, I had the worst $18 shrimp tacos in the history of shrimp tacos at his restaurant in the Rio LV.

Hard to say. There's been short-rib poutine, smoked meatloaf, brisket-stuffed armadillo eggs, and more.
To be fair, almost everything looks amazing if I'm watching while hungry.

there's also those allegations of antisemitism and homophobia, but I don't wanna ruin Fieri for you guys all at once.
with that said, I do appreciate that he focuses on divey food, which imho is better as a whole than anything "gourmet"

It took Fieri a long time to get to his new restaurant at PnL and he largely did not seem into it. The thing has absolutely tanked, and I'd be shocked if it survived Covid-19. Strange how little he is into his namesake restaurants.
For those not in KC, there is a restaurant/property owner self nicknamed "Stretch" who met Guy when Stretch's restaurant Grinders was on DDD. He and Guy are now good friends and Stretch is trying to emulate everything Guy down to the looks. As usual, Trad ruins everything.
Like others, I've never cared much for Guy Fieri either, to the point where I haven't watched DDD very much, but I do occasionally now during the pandemic and am not being as put off by him.
That being said, I'm a fool for Chopped. Watching the contestants attempt to "balance" the flavors of so many different ingredients, (in only half an hour), helps reinforce to me that there is not a "right" way to cook*. I'm drawn to shows like that where I might learn something I can use.
*Unless you're baking, where exact measurements and ingredients are much more necessary.

Me too, but this is why I don't like shows like chopped and preferred the old-style shows where they showed you how to make stuff step by step. Now that stuff is just on youtube (I like Chef John from food wishes and a couple others).
I don't really like most food cooking challenges, Chopped isn't bad, I like the British Baking show, I used to like Iron chef, and I also like Nailed It (but that's for the humor).
What I HATE about the challenges is that you have a world-class chef and they're like make something using Pringles, Squid ink, and a pomegranate. It seems like a waste, I'd rather them make the best possible dish under the best possible conditions, not watching some contrived bull shit.
And stop it with the rouse of secret ingredients. It's clearly fake. They reveal some weird secret ingredient on Iron Chef, and then the chef happens to have every weird crazy ingredient no matter how specific they are to that secret food. I hate how fake it is.
Also, Food Network made a mistake by making everything about the personalities of the host. I'm more interested in the food than I am that you make pancakes with you niece of that you have a weird haircut.
