Re: No One Cares Because Nothing Matters Anymore
And he's touching the bed railing the guy is on. These guys just can't help but look dumb.
And it doesn't just go for them, even state officials in IL were not practicing what they preach at times and got called out on it too.
On the daily, I feel like I'm being overly cautious...not touching door handles to go into my office (using a folded paper towel) and throwing away once I unlock/open the door and lock it behind me, and then open the next 2 door handles I've got to go thru. Trash can right there. Boom. Same thing on the way out.....and there's only 3 or 4 people regularly touching the doors so low traffic since most people are exclusively working from home.....pumping gas I use an old golf glove and then throw it away or spray it when I get home (finally found a use for those old shitty golf gloves!)...and then when I do grocery pick up I try to wipe most everything down when I get home and take the stuff out of the bags with gloves on......we've got a little less than 200 cases in my county last I checked (not a ton of testing though, maybe 2k-3k tests so far)....although we've jumped up with a 100 or so new cases in the last handful of days.
If I'm doing all that, then these idiots should be able to at least fake it for the cameras for a bit with masks/distancing from others/common sense.

It's Pence's way of fluffing Trump, to show him that he's all in, willing to crawl through glass if necessary, to own the libs!

From what I have read, touching stuff really isn't the problem. It's the breathing that is the problem. I read that we don't really need to wipe off groceries etc.... just need to wash our hands after bringing them home.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 4:59 pm And he's touching the bed railing the guy is on. If Sanjay Gupta says he's wiping off groceries then I'm wiping off the damn groceries too ...As far as touching things like gas pumps and door handles....I figure it can't hurt, right? Especially because I'm a face toucher and up until a month or 2 ago a lifetime fingernail biter.
Re: No One Cares Because Nothing Matters Anymore
"At this point, I don't think anyone can take a group of people with COVID, say how each person has become infected, and then say that xx% got infected with droplets and yy% got infected via touching surfaces," Dr. Jeffrey N. Martin, a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California, San Francisco, told Live Science in an email. "I don't think this kind of study has ever been done for any infection. In most individual persons, we do not know how the person got infected."
...but I think it's totally logical to think/assume that if you inhale the respiratory droplets from an uncovered cough from by infected person close to you that you'd be more likely to be infected than if 1min later you touch the table where the respiratory droplets from their uncovered cough landed and then touch your mouth.

What? Touching stuff is absolutely a problem, of course its a fucking problem. How could not be an issue? Droplets live on surfaces, touch it, touch yourself.... You prove yourself daily.

No, You Don't Need To Disinfect Your Groceries.
No need to wipe down groceries or takeout, experts say, but do wash your hands
Do You Really Have to Disinfect All Groceries Now? An Expert Explains: There is no evidence currently that COVID-19 is transmitted by food.

Re: No One Cares Because Nothing Matters Anymore
I think it's unlikely to be infected because of a scenario such as: you order grocery pick up, person getting your order ready is infected, coughs on your box of cheese-its, loads it into bag, 30min later you pick up your order, 10min later you're unloading groceries in the garage and touch the virus droplets on the cheese-its box, then accidentally pick your nose/touch your eyes/bite your fingernail and become infected...
I think it's unlikely for sure, but I don't think it's impossible....so out of an abundance of caution I quickly wipe groceries down. I'm not like saturating the boxes in bleach water or spray, just kind of wiping down the areas where they're likely grabbed, and then if it's a box of cheese-its or something I have a table in my garage where I let them sit for a day or 2 before bringing them in the house.
Again, I'm sure it's over the top and on the extreme side of caution....but it certainly doesn't hurt and it's easy enough to do with minimal effort....and honestly, maybe more than anything, it just helps with the anxiety that goes with being the ONLY person in my household who has left the house since the last week or 2 of March.
When this started Fauci/Gupta/etc. said something along the lines of "if it doesn't feel like you're doing too much to be safe then you're probably not doing enough".
Like the comment I posted mentioned, they don't really know how people are becoming infected because they haven't had time to study it yet....they have studied how long the virus is alive on surfaces, and that's enough for me. Why take the chance of my wife or kid getting this if a quick action can help prevent it. Even if it's a small chance.
I don't let me kids ride bikes in thunderstorms even though the chance of getting hit by lightening is ridiculously low.

Re: No One Cares Because Nothing Matters Anymore
I mentioned about a month ago I walked by a restaurant and watched a guy cough in to his hand, take cash out of his pocket with the same hand, and hand it to the cashier within a 5 second period.
NO FUCKING WAY I am touching that cash. Would you?
Last week when I went for a walk with my mother she was wearing rubber gloves. She opened a door using the handle. Within 5-10 seconds she was touching her cell phone and proceeded to make a phone call. I tried to explain to her why that was foolish.
People can and will do as they please but I fail to comprehend why someone would prefer to error on the side of carelessness than error on the side of caution.

Sorry to hear about someone pissing in your Cheerios this morning. Hopefully tomorrow's stays urine free and you can relax without the need to attack random comments. If you want to wipe everything down that you touch, you do you. From what I have read, it isn't necessary so I am not. I will rely on hand washing and avoidance of people.

Where did you hear that fomites are not a common route of infection?twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 1:38 pmSorry to hear about someone pissing in your Cheerios this morning. According to this the virus remains viable on plastic for up to 72 hours.

And if you believe that it can't be transmitted by fomites why would you bother washing your hands?

If I am going to wash my hands in Step 5 of a five step process, it seems redundant to me to also use wipes to open doors etc... in steps 1-4. The OCD feel of it would make me even more anxious than I already am. I am not a face toucher so it's what works for me.PhDhawk wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:21 pmWhere did you hear that fomites are not a common route of infection?twocoach wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 1:38 pmSorry to hear about someone pissing in your Cheerios this morning. Here is something for people to ponder and realize how clueless we are as a society.
If you knew I had herpes, and you watched me piss in a urinal while holding my dick with my right hand, and watched me flush the urinal with my right hand, and then right after I flushed it you pissed in the urinal, would you pull the flush handle?
Now ask yourself the next time you piss in a urinal, do you know if the person who pissed in the urinal before you had herpes.
I know, I know, you wash your hands after you piss in a public washroom.
What about those who don't? What have they touched that you have touched AFTER you washed your hands? That's right! - The door. DON'T TOUCH THE DOOR!
