I'm sorry those things happened to you, dude. I struggle with depression, too. I've been unemployed, homeless, and in debt up to my eyeballs because of decisions other people made. I once almost succeeded in killing myself when it was at its worst. I guess how I look at it is that, if I had to go through all of that stuff again, death would be merciful by way of comparison. I don't know how bad all of this is going to get. I hope we've seen the worst of it, but I don't feel very hopeful right now. If you see reasons to hope, more power to you.Grandma wrote: ↑Thu Apr 30, 2020 4:06 pmYou're not.
You're telling me and others "there are lots of things worse than death".
I suffered from severe depression.
I had a BAD drug addiction to the point where I was hospitalized with what the doctors said was a "near death experience" and I have a hole in my skull because of it.
I fucked over myself and many other people because of it.
I have seen and experienced some really shitty things in my life.
I have been literally 100,000s of thousands of dollars in debt with no way out in sight.
What of what I just mentioned do you feel is (or is not) worse than death - TO YOU?
What of what I just mentioned do you feel was (or was not) worse than death - TO ME?
That's my point.

I have been using a shit-ton of salt and pepper lately.
Re: COVID-19 numbers
If it makes you feel any better, routine visits to physicians in private practice have plummeted. That means many independently-owned primary care practices are threatened with bankruptcy because, understandably, people who don't absolutely need to go to the doctor aren't going. And heaven forbid someone asymptomatic shows up at your clinic and then subsequently tests + for COVID-19, with all the resulting contact tracing of other patients and quarantining of exposed staff, etc.

If, in this balancing act, I err on the side of caution in terms of reopening, it's because there are things we can do about the unemployed and underemployed. There's nothing we can do about being dead. There's no vaccine, there's no approved treatment, though there was good news yesterday.
We can argue over the CARES act all we wsnt, I have issues with a lot of it, but that's a different conversation. The fact is we'rebetter equipped to handle financial difficulties right now than we are this virus.
My Dad owned his own business. It failed because of some bad decisions by the federal government in 1999. We went through some hard times. I watched my Dad have to change careers at 49. It wasn't easy. We got through it stronger on the other side. That was without trillions of dollars from the gov't. But we wouldn't have gotten through death from a virus.

So we’re the most cases by a huge margin.
And we and Greece are the only ones not trending down.
Can we like, go to school on other countries? Or should we arm up and storm the governor’s mansion?

Putting numbers in context is hard. Let’s just agree to blame Trump and be done with it.
