You know what else New Mexico has?

It's largest city has 1/15th the population of NYC and population density of 1/22 of NYC.

It also has no subways.

Some news on the topic:

As the world waits for a coronavirus vaccine, tens of thousands of people could die. But some scientists believe a vaccine might already exist.
Surprising new research in a niche area of immunology suggests that certain live vaccines that have been around for decades could, possibly, protect against the coronavirus. The theory is that these vaccines could make people less likely to experience serious symptoms — or even any symptoms — if they catch it.
At more than 25 universities and clinical centers around the world, researchers have begun clinical trials, primarily in health care workers, to test whether a live tuberculosis vaccine that has been in use for 99 years called the bacillus Calmette-Guérin, or B.C.G., vaccine, could reduce the risks associated with the coronavirus.
Another small but esteemed group of scientists is raising money to test the potential protective effects of a 60-year-old live polio vaccine called O.P.V.

There's a clinical trial with BCG in Australia for frontline healthcare workers.

Didn't a lot of us get the OPV vaccine?

There’s a hypothesis that the reason for the low COVID infection rate among India’s seniors is that they all got the BCG vaccine in their younger days. That vaccine is not without controversy either!

My family lives in your county. It's tiny. And there are more than 15 confirmed cases. They and the rest of the majority understand what is going on and why. They're also finding things to do during this time, getting all of the food they need, etc. You're in a lonely position.

I think you have my county confused with another one, then.

I live in a county where there have been 58,500 confirmed cases and 2500 deaths.
That my friend is also "crap".
I have little doubt people in your county want to open back up for business. I don't blame them.
Heck, I very well might be out there "protesting" if I lived in your county and I needed to open up my business to survive.
Now here is something to ponder, your county may have only 15 confirmed cases and 1 death. How would you feel if INFECTED people from my county came to your county to hang out in your open businesses? Point of my asking is the same thing I have been saying for a couple of weeks. PLEASE open businesses but PLEASE be smart and safe about it. We live in a country were many people don't feel a need to be smart and safe about it. Thus, the never ending in the near future virus cycle will go round and round and round. We are damned no matter what we do - and what we don't do.

I don’t think what you are saying is unreasonable. My point all along has been that it is ridiculous for the government to demand that areas like mine handle things the same was as NYC or Chicago. I do think that we are much more likely to come out of this on a workable timeline via herd immunity than waiting another 18 months for a vaccine that may never come and/or may be about as effective as our current flu vaccine protocols.

Important Information Regarding COVID-19

To our Northwestern Medicine Patients:

I hope this letter finds you well in this unprecedented time. While the headlines are understandably dominated by COVID-19, we know many of you have other medical needs that must be addressed in the midst of the pandemic.

Our physicians are prioritizing their availability to perform surgeries, visits and procedures following the Governor’s May 1 guidance so that individuals who need more advanced treatments can receive them in a timely manner. For those who have had a procedure or surgery postponed, your physician or a member of their team will be in contact with you directly to discuss your treatment plan.

I understand the fear and uncertainty you may be feeling about coming into a hospital right now. To help set your mind at ease, I want to share the extensive measures we’ve taken for everyone’s safety.

Visitation. Unfortunately, we must continue to restrict visitors in all inpatient and outpatient facilities except in very specific cases, such as birthing partners and support for compassionate care. We will continue to evaluate this policy while keeping your safety in mind, and will post updates on nm.org. These tips will help you prepare for your visit.

Screening. Everyone entering our buildings will be screened for fever and asked whether they have experienced COVID-19 symptoms. Those exhibiting symptoms will be triaged for care or asked to return home.

Comprehensive cleaning. Our Environmental Services teams continue to perform rigorous cleaning of our facilities and have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting in high-touch areas. Hand sanitizer dispensers remain available throughout our facilities.

Universal masking. Everyone is required to wear a mask while in our hospitals or ambulatory facilities. Masks are available for those entering our facilities.

Physical distancing. For everyone’s safety, a distance of at least six feet must be maintained unless you are receiving direct patient care. We have modified seating arrangements in waiting rooms, food courts and other common areas to reinforce this practice. We will also limit elevator occupancy and apologize in advance that it may take you a little longer to get to your destination. Please plan your time accordingly.

As we navigate the gradual and measured openings of our hospitals and ambulatory facilities in the weeks ahead, please know the entire Northwestern Medicine team of physicians, nurses and staff is focused on ensuring you feel safe and supported during this unprecedented time. We will have ample staff available to help you navigate the process of returning to our facilities for treatment. You can also find the latest information on COVID-19 and our response at nm.org/covid-19 or call our Northwestern Medicine COVID-19 hotline at 312.47.COVID (312.472.6843).

Thank you for your continued support of Northwestern Medicine and the privilege to provide your health care.

Sincerely,

Dean M. Harrison
President and Chief Executive Officer
Northwestern Memorial HealthCare
