Comments like this are why trump gets up there boasting about testing numbers as if it's a competition between countries...which is unproductive and does nothing to help this situation. (Not that your comment is "wrong"...just thinking about it in relation to yesterday's press conference blow up)

We don't need to focus on/worry about setting any world standards (whatever that even means in a situation like this)...we need to worry about doing the absolute best job we can do to protect the American people imo. I dont care if South Korea has more tests per capita. I do care if we don't have enough testing and/or the testing needed to protect us as well as possible.

Depends on how you define far removed I guess. We have done the most testing and only a handful have done more per capita.

This is not to say we've done enough testing. I'm not sure anyone has. But the idea that we're lagging way behind others in testing isn't true.

Our biggest mistake, on nearly every front, has been a delayed response and lack of preparedness.

And we also have to look at what is required to ramp up testing...because trying to increase the number of tests available is also part of the reason the false negative % is so high.

It's not like we can just magically make all the supplies/resources/personell required to ramp up appear. They have to be made. And there have to be people available to administer/process the tests...and some of the supplies haven't always been made in the United States, so some of it is taking time it sounds like.

We were under prepared. We responded slow. Now we're having to "play from behind".

I'd like to see how they do that, logistically, in 10 days.

Tests go to the people instead of vice versa.

Every aspect of it though. How many testing machines with what throughput. Who's doing the testing? When/how were they trained? What are the quality controls? This is done by mail, or people go out and administer the test?

I mean, NO other country has come close to something like this, and that's ignoring the timeframe.

I've been very outspoken about believing what China says, and way more than just coronavirus. But, I think a country, even and maybe especially China, could get the Wuhan tests administered in 10 days. Now, processed, data back, etc., no idea, you'd know that better than I would.

No never heard about the hyatt disaster in KC...but there was a hard rock collapse in New Orleans not long ago.

I shouldn't have posted about an unrelated hotel collapse because it's irrelevant.... i would have been much better served by posting about the Javit's Center and McCormick Place transformations, as evidence that while we didnt "build" 7 hospitals in a week, we did "build" extra facilities too.

Sorry if my post with the link about the hotel collapse came across as asshole-ish. I really wasn't trying to be a dick or anti-China. The videos of those hospitals going up are fascinating to watch. It's impressive. But again, not a competition. I dont think we're capable of doing what they did by building those buildings that fast due to various reasons...but it's not as if we did nothing either.

Falkland Islands have a population of less than 3,000. They've done 400 total tests and have had 13 total cases....none active. Sorry, but I dont see that as apples to apples. But its not a competition so I guess it just depends which graph you think is more relevant when analyzing/comparing our tests to other Countries.

Are the Falkland Islands considered a "country"?
