To summarize:

Student (age 6-18) deaths from COVID-19-involved illnesses are projected at a rate of 0.0001% as a percentage of their peers. They died from influenza-involved illnesses at a rate of 0.0005% in 2018.

Workforce (age 19-55) deaths from COVID-19-involved illnesses are projected at a rate of .01% as a percentage of their peers. They died from influenza-involved illnesses at a rate of .007% in 2018.

Retired (age 66-77) deaths from COVID-19-involved illnesses are projected at a rate of 1% as a percentage of their peers. They died from influenza-involved illnesses at a rate of .05% over the same period.

Geriatric (age 78-up) deaths from COVID-19-involved illnesses are projected at a rate of 4% as a percentage of their peers. They died from influenza-involved illnesses at a rate of .3% over the same period.

Fear porn assumes that people will believe the “mainstream” media, choose not to think for themselves, and meekly submit to the government’s attempts to trample their Constitutional rights and steal their futures. Enough is already too much.
That's because mitigation is working.

You'd need to know percentages of deaths if nothing was done to know if it was worth it.
And we would know that how? Serious question, ‘cause the statistical models that Fauci seems to be relying on aren’t worth a crap.

Don't know.

But doing it how you did is like having a guy who's 100 lbs overweight, has high bp, etc. So he looses 100 lbs, never has a heart attack and then saying all that diet and exercise was a waste.

The latest projection I heard for infections without mitigation was 30 million Americans.
So, that's about a 20 fold increase.
I only came to kick some ass...

I agree there is some effect. The million dollar question is whether it is enough of an effect to make the economic fallout it has created worthwhile. I’m guessing there will never be consensus on that question.

The quality of life you have also depends to varying degrees on whether or not you have money. If I have a choice between death and living in a Third World situation, I'm probably going with death.

I dont think we are in danger of becoming a 3rd world situation.

But I do not discount your feelings about job loss. I value those feelings too.

Therein lies a good portion of the problem. The simpletons have been brainwashed into believing it’s one or the other. They convinced the simpletons that if we don’t Kill the economy the virus will wipe out humanity.

This whole thing has been an eye opener.

I agree...its not 1 or the other. There must be a balance.

But I also dont think we are in danger of "wiping out the economy" if we stay partially shut down for 1 day longer....definitely in a recession, period of depression, but we are smart enough to adjust and get it back functioning...even if it requires a major overhaul of the make up of our economy.

Might be the best place to be if everything falls apart then. Befriend a farmer. Grow a garden. A country boy can survive.

Wrong. People here are doing much better overall than those in major metro areas. I’d rather be in a county with 8 active cases and no deaths any day of the week. If I want to go to the city, it’s a relatively short drive, and I can leave the nastiness when I’m done working, shopping, eating, etc.

Contrast that with my friends in metro KC who are leaving the house once per week and only then wearing a mask and gloves, and I’ll take rural living every time.

I guess we’re gonna find out what the long term fallout is to our “at any cost“ approach to virus fighting.

What? I...I think this is very obviously (again) pointed 180 degrees away from the truth.

We're about to find out what the long term fallout is to the "the virus is over because I'm bored and say so" approach to virus fighting.

Interesting. I feel bad for your friends for feeling they can't leave their house more than once a week.
I live in a major city.
I leave my house more than once per week. Sometimes multiple times a day.
I wear a mask when I can't "social/physical distance" - but otherwise I don't wear one.
I don't wear gloves.
Same with my friends who live in the city.

You're completely mischaracterizing the argument. It's nothing as trivial as boredom. It has everything to do with having a job and a life to go back to - which will not be the case for many people if we continue down the road we're on.

I think recovery from this economic downturn will be significantly faster than a normal recession, due to the nature of it. Particularly if there is a vaccine.

The elite can’t be bothered with the trivials of the everyday folks. Everymans problems don’t penetrate the country club walls.

Those making the decisions are not impacted.
