I suppose I didn’t mean “critical mass” to necessarily be a certain number of people, per se

I know you dont agree with these particular protesters (fair take) but keep in mind there are other protests and uprisings that have provided you with the ability to live your life the way you do and want to.
oh yeah. I'm all for a merited civil protest, and appreciate the historical challenges that have ultimately resulted in the freedoms we have today.

but, in the grand scheme of protests, it's just not real high on my merit scale to call the cart guy at Costco a pussy.

Who determines if its a merited protest?
history?

if we have some critical mass of Mericans who rally behind ol' "no shirt no mask no problem, cuz I GOT MAH FREEDOM!," then let's talk merit.

By doing any form of protest other than gathering in a crowd that doesn't follow social distancing.

They could write a letter to the editor in their local paper.

They could gather in a large open public area and maintain distance.

They could drive around in cars with a speaker a la blues brothers.

The options are limitless. Get creative.

So, civil disobedience is an acceptable format for protest as long as you agree with the cause?

The issue here being:

They are protesting that they think America should be opened again ( i mean, aren't we kinda already doing this? ) and that we don't need masks or social distancing so to protest they don't wear masks or social distance.

So for them, it is the appropriate protest.

No. Civil disobedience ceases to be civil when it unnecessarily increases the likelihood of spreading an infectious disease that is the causative agent if an ongoing global pandemic.

Well, then that's just dumb.

That's like stabbing each other to protest agsinst the idea that we shouldn't be stabbing each other.

I wouldn't support that protest either.

kinda.

I give three examples of acceptable formats people could use to protest a cause I don't believe in. The response: So, civil disobedience is an acceptable format for protest as long as you agree with the cause?

So, what do they chant at these protests?

"We're getting exactly what we want it just isn't happening fast enough!"?

I wonder about kids' sports, baseball, in particular.

Are my boys playing this summer? Will they need their own helmets, bats, etc.?

No guidance from the league because state law has preempted, to date.

I bet they're not playing, but it's easier to see a path back to baseball than, say, summer football camps.

Not everyone is getting what they want:

Ok. Protest. Plenty of room on that sidewalk to spread out. They're protesting guidelines? If it's a sport that's supposed to start right now, it should probably be cancelled.

And this may be an unpopular opinion on here. But starting up youth sports again is not at the top of my priorities list. If we can't have kids gather together for school yet, I don't see how you can make an argument that they should gather for team sports.

Your 2nd paragraph is why I posted it. I know it sucks for kids (and everyone else), but there are ways to keep kids active without gathering for team sports. It's pretty much the definition of extracurricular, imo. Getting people back to work needs to be the first thing on the other side of the balance beam. Pay-to-play youth sports is somewhere underneath that.

I feel bad for the kids in those pics, but not because they can't have team sports practices right now.
