Gonna take me 13? 14? Hours. Have Elsie pop the top on a couple buckskins for me. Or is it Toni tonight?
Top 3 in your city

The bartender? For the longest time it was this badass chick named Missy.
I’d feel weird except gusher already doxxed her like a bajillion times.
Besides, the protest is on the street. The only ones actually hanging in the bar are the crusty old local drunks so behind on the times that they don’t even know Kobe died yet.

Re: Top 3 in your city
I thought John Brown Underground (or at least I think that’s the name) was great when I was there about a year ago. Don’t get a chance to visit Lawrence often given that I live so far away
Re: Top 3 in your city
I thought seahawk was from Florida. Hearing her say she can’t find a good Reuben was surprising, with the higher than average older Jewish population there, I’d expect the opposite.
Re: Top 3 in your city
I have yet to get to John Brown Underground or the Wake the Dead spot by it.
In Lawrence for a few days, it's gotta be brunch at The Roost.

Are Reubens a Jewish thing? They have beef and cheese.Gqcolorado wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 9:50 amI thought seahawk was from Florida. Hearing her say she can’t find a good Reuben was surprising, with the higher than average older Jewish population there, I’d expect the opposite.

Re: Top 3 in your city
They originated and are often served at Jewish delis, but are not kosher.
Re: Top 3 in your city
A Reuben at Katz, even though it's a tourist spot and overpriced, is pretty delicious.
Re: Top 3 in your city
I've always wondered why a Jewish deli would serve a rueben. I read somewhere that it originated in Omaha.
Defense. Rebounds.
Re: Top 3 in your city
As a vegetarian, I often request if a grilled cheese can be made on rye (or pumpernickel) with swiss, onions (red if they have), tomato, sauerkraut and thousand island (if they have). Often I get a quizzical look from the waitstaff - I tell them it's like a meatless reuben and the invariable response is "of course". If the cook is a little creative (s)he lightly grills the onions before installing in the sandwich. A go-to pub-grub staple because I am not a big fan of most of the fake-meat hamburger substitute, as they taste too meaty, especially the texture (I've never knowingly eaten meat in my life, so I am guessing that's what meat tastes/feels like) - to me that's a bug not a feature.
PS: Maybe this belongs in the "Sandwich" thread

If you've never eaten meat in your life how do you know you hate it?
"Too meaty" tasting is not the complaint ive heard about meatless burgers

Re: Top 3 in your city
The thing about most meatless offerings at sandwich shops (at least the newer offerings) is that those meatless options are as bad if not worse nutritionally.
Gotta keep that salt and fat intake up to keep them customers coming back.
