Millennials

Post by ousdahl »

can we get a thread going for the new greatest generation?

We’ve had to endure 2 (3?) major recessions, a global pandemic, race roits that will hopefully result in unprecedented advances for civil rights and equality, and we haven’t even hit our forties yet.

Not to mention the biggest terrorist attack and longest running war in Merican history.

What else?

In some ways, Obama is the Millennial leader, but need one of that generation.

Can bring up Zuck again . . .

Ugh Zuck.

He strikes me as some high functioning sociopath, but even greedier and without any of the occasional wisdom that comes from Elon Musk.

Zuck is more likely to spend the rest of his life in prison than he is to become any kind of a positive leader for his generation.

Obama is an obvious candidate, but also a bummer cuz some significant part of the Merican population will always hate him no matter what.

Obama himself isn't a millennial though, I think that's what CnB is saying.

True.

It would be nice if the millennial leader was a millennial him/herself.

Millennial leader prob uses some gender neutral pronoun too.

But yeah, despite all the shit our generation has faced, cue mich to come tell us how the kids these days have it so easy.

None of us were challenged with a major world war or forced by draft into a smaller one, though.

Yes. In the end, though, the Prez that will be tied to millenials forever is whichever one wipes out student loan debt. It will completely change the economy for the good and the generation will be quite successful coupled with its embrace of technology and efficiency.

The current social rights stuff, and perhaps even Medicare for all, is trending to be more tied to Gen Z.

Yeah, there are def bigger and more defining wars than millennials have had to endure.

WW2 was all hands on deck, right? The entire nation mobilized.

And Nam was ongoing and unique in that it was the first war to see growing opposition back home.

Fortunately we millennials didn’t have to face a draft, or a conflict as big (at least in terms of numbers) as those.

But we invaded Afghanistan when I was in HS, and it’s still going. Our generation has seen our nation at war for our entire adult lives.

There’s a meme out there about how lawn darts killed one little girl and got banned, yet guns kill tens of thousands a year and that’s just the price of freedom baby.

Simon Sinek did the most tone deaf TED talk on Millennials. Right down to the participation trophy. I consider myself the first millennial. Even had student loan issues and years of limited opportunities.

I don't like avocados all that much.
I'd prefer a good salsa over guac too.

Pico with added diced avocado is delicious.
