hmm.

And to think, 5 months ago, it took either a very carefully orchestrated attempt, or little orchestration at all, to convince Trump voters that Trump shouldn’t be removed from office.

Or is that chicken and egg?

I feel like either senate republicans and/or conservative media just had to drop some choice angle about why it should happen, rather than bury heads in sand and march in lock step.

5 months ago, the world was a very different place. Life comes at you fast.

I don't think we can really compare anything from that time to now. I'm not sure we can compare any point of U.S. history. We have unemployment of the great depression, disease of the 1918 Pandemic, and 1960s civil unrest, all peaking in less than three months' time. February 2020 might as well be 1988 right now.

Well, in January, other countries with grown adult leaders were already hunkering down for the pandemic.

We were arguing about why we shouldn’t hear from witnesses that would incriminate our toddler potus, who was among other things trying to shut up the virus like it was a porn star violating her NDA.

I'm talking only U.S. Some countries were quick to act, some weren't. February 2020, Coronavirus was a late-night comedian joke, and Corona Beer sales plummeted. America was in its own bubble, where even the most liberal cities didn't think it was going to affect them.

I'm speaking only to the U.S. collective consciousness in Feb 2020 to this very moment. A lot has changed, and I don't think we can compare GOP spinelessness of that time to the GOP spinelessness of right now.

I remember February a little differently, with the Rona this looming storm on the horizon, growing closer and closer, and anyone paying attention wondering not if but when the shit would hit the fan.

But yea, earlier on - and I don’t know exactly when - the mindset was more like, it’s fucking up the rest of the world but who cares cuz we’re Merica.

And then there were competing schools about it - some saying what a problem it would be, and some saying it’s just the flu.

“We’re telling New Yorkers, go about your lives, take the subway, go out, enjoy life."
– New York City Health Commissioner Oxiris Barbot, on Feb. 7

“In powerful show of defiance of #coronavirus scare, huge crowds gathering in NYC's Chinatown for ceremony ahead of annual #LunarNewYear parade. Chants of "be strong Wuhan!"
If you are staying away, you are missing out!"
– New York City Councilman Mark Levine, on Feb. 9

"We have the best health care system on the planet right here in New York. So, when you’re saying, what happened in other countries versus what happened here, we don’t even think it’s going to be as bad as it was in other countries.”
– Gov. Andrew Cuomo, on March 2

"If you’re under 50 and you’re healthy, which is most New Yorkers, there’s very little threat here. This disease, even if you were to get it, basically acts like a common cold or flu.”
– New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, on March 10

Seems like Feb 27 is when Gov. Newsom started to sound the California alarm
“It’s natural to feel concerned about the novel coronavirus, but I want Californians to know that we have rigorously planned for this public health event,” Ghaly said.

Feb 28 in Chicago
Coronavirus: Risk locally low, Pritzker and Lightfoot say, but ‘very high’ globally, public health officials say
The mayor said: “Because we’re talking about specifically here in Chicago and Illinois,” and pointing more widely to the White House-ordered restrictions on travel from China. "None of us can stand here and say ‘there’s no risk’ but we believe based upon the diligence of the medical professionals, which you’ve heard directly from them, that the risk remains low.

I wonder what their tone would have been like if the nation’s leadership at the top wasn’t trying to downplay it even more.

And your posts. You admittedly did not post much early on about COVID, and it appears you were affected early by the shut downs, so I can imagine you remembering being more aware than others early on. But the posts you did make were dad jokes. And I think your March 9th post might be a little telling about your timeline.

I think this joke has been made, but, if you guys crack a cold bottle of corona virus, just remember to garnish it with a fresh slice of Lyme disease.

“So are the markets overreacting cuz of corona virus?”

“No, the markets tanked because of the dem debates, all those candidates are fools, and the markets crashing is the dem’s fault cuz the dems might win, never mind I’m gonna win.”

good discussion today.

the only thing is, how many Merican voters may be, or are, so uncurious and myopic as well.

Come November, the corona virus and this administration's response may not even be on anyone's minds any more.

I think if we had Fauci and his ilk with more ability to execute policy early on, a lot would have changed. But a lot of our safe guards were gutted, and a lot of people seem like they were shouted down early on. It's also not like U.S. was the last to move. U.K. and Sweden acted later (although Sweden is a special case, because they gave the power to the people what to do, and the people seemed to responded well), but I think Italy really freaked out the U.S. and the hot spots in NYC led to the country shutting down.

It's just a shame if we had a national order, instead of piecemeal response, we might have saved thousands of lives, opened up more safely, and helped curbed COVID in the U.S. To me, not having a uniform guideline was the U.S.'s downfall, not necessarily the early response.

and yea, I don’t think the fallout had to be nearly as bad, if we had collectively been proactive about more.

We should have had legit travel restrictions, thorough testing, and tracking and tracing, all in place come January? I mean that’s when the presidential advisors started suggesting as much, right?

But hey, we still don’t have adequate testing or track and tracing.

Depends on who you ask. There seem to be a lot of single issue voters here. If you want to completely outlaw abortion, you can be the worst person in the world and get elected. Most of the people I know are not fans of Mitch. Some vote for him anyway.

Donald J. Trump
@realDonaldTrump
It has been suggested that we should rename as many as 10 of our Legendary Military Bases, such as Fort Bragg in North Carolina, Fort Hood in Texas, Fort Benning in Georgia, etc. These Monumental and very Powerful Bases have become part of a Great American Heritage, and a...
...history of Winning, Victory, and Freedom. The United States of America trained and deployed our HEROES on these Hallowed Grounds, and won two World Wars. Therefore, my Administration will not even consider the renaming of these Magnificent and Fabled Military Installations...
...Our history as the Greatest Nation in the World will not be tampered with. Respect our Military!

I couldn't care less if he changes the names or not but.......
I wonder if before today, he had any idea who they were named after.
I wonder if he knows Fort Hood didn't exist during WW1.

If it was passed by a Dem, named after a Dem or proposed by a Dem, he is opposed to it because "Fuck Dems" sells to his base. He doesn't give a shit about anything he talks about like this.
