You/anyone would be better off spending your time talking to a rock than whining about a waiver to attend a trump rally.

You're missing the point entirely. Trump is selling the virus as a dem/media fueled hoax and that we should have everyone go out there and "take one for the team" to get the economy (AKA his campaign) back on track.

If that's true then why the need for the legal protection?
No I am not missing the point.

You're missing the point.

And the need for legal protection is probably because without it any opportunist from either party who isn't scared of dying from covid would have been tempted (maybe even smart) to go try to catch it, attend the rally, claim they got it there, and sue for a large amount of money.

Stop being hysterical about a freaking waiver for a rally that you (or I) would never attend anyway. My guess is a large portion of the people who will attend the rally are glad to sign the waiver and/or would have gladly volunteered to risk it regardless.

This is so stupid to be wasting your time worrying/ranting about when its a rally for someone who nearly everyone on this board absolutely hate and would never attend one of his events. Please try not to be outraged by anything and everything you can possibly think of when it comes to trump. Many of us would find it easier to take you seriously if you could.
Illy, no one is hysterical but you. We're having a conversation and asking questions. Trying to figure out WHY people are willing to overlook certain things while getting offended over other things is a conversation that needs to happen.

I was told that my failure, as a "damn liberal", was that my failure to listen, to ask questions, to understand the plight of others, was what helped put this fucking moron into the White House. Now when I ask these questions, I am "hysterical"? OK, whatever.

It's not hysterical to want to understand why people who are different than you feel the way they do. It's what is supposed to happen. It's what helps gain compassion and empathy for the plight of those in your city but not your school district; for those in your country but not your state; for those around the world.

It's not hysterical to ask why people have a problem with taking a little deeper scoop out of the endless ocean of trillions of dollars in the pockets of billionaires and use it to provide the schooling, the health infrastructure and the business stimulus needed to help raise the standard of living of a portion of our citizens who have been actively, violently oppressed for the entire duration of our nation's history.

Saying that there needs to be major changes doesn't mean that there haven't been improvements. This isnt 1965. But there are major advancements to be made and they must be made. To hold that back, to prevent that any longer needs to be viewed as a stain on our human souls.

This isn't Team (R) vs. Team(D). This momentum needs to be maintained and we need to put people into position to affect real change. Being born a white male American shouldn't be a lottery ticket handed to you at birth. The color of your skin and the genitalia that came attached to your bag of DNA-defined body parts shouldn't limit or boost your pursuit of however you choose to best pursue the American Dream.

You are the one making a big deal about a standard waiver that doesn't impact you in any way, shape, or form provided that you dont attend the event.

YOU are the one that said we were on "Teams".

The difference is that for go karts and putt putt (and MLB with the disclosures on the ticket) the organizer tells you what the risks are and how they mitigate the risk (provide helmets, screens to cover high risk areas at the ballpark etc).

Here the organizers deny that there’s any risk at all but want you to sign a waiver anyway. If there’s no risk what are you waiving? If there’s a risk then what’s the mitigation? Finally, a friend who is a lawyer said that the waiver has so many holes and wouldn’t hold up that he’d pay money to represent plaintiffs if they get the infection.

Or electing Trump was the last gasp effort to find someone to stave off all the losing. Politics has become a team sport for many and no one likes to play on five different losing teams at once.

White? Your team is "losing" as neighborhoods and businesses become more integrated all over the country and people tell you to be OK with it. No one likes being told what to be OK with.

Churchgoers? Your team is "losing" as fewer and fewer choose to believe and more people want the Bible removed as the basis of legislation.

High school educated? Your team is "losing" as fewer and fewer people can begin decent careers without college degrees or advanced intellectual training.

Gun owner? Your team is "losing" as the percentage of households that own guns shrinks and more weapons are looked at unfavorably.

Rural? Your team is "losing" as fewer and fewer people choose to live in rural communities.

I choose to go kart. I choose not to go to this event. Those are choices I make, no one else. So what is the issue? Aren't the riots about perserving rights and rights to make choices that others dont agree with? The people at the rally are making the decision to accept that risk. The protesters are choosing their risks, and, its probably a higher risk so why arent we mad about them?

I dont think waivers should be required at all anywhere, but,.....lawyers.

It's fucking dumb, for reasons ZSN laid out. And it's fucking dumb for reasons stated by TDub(sorry, guys, lawyers being the cause of much of it...chicken, egg, whatever).

But this has devolved into mostly a political issue, which is stupid as shit. All the hope that we are going to come closer together, etc, etc....nope, it's not happening. Sure, the Floyd murder and subsequent response hasn't helped in any of that, but it's been a circle-jerk since about week 2 regarding what to do, not to do, etc.

The simple fact that so many refuse to wear masks bc they aren't sure of the science behind it but really are hiding behind "freedom" as their reason, but the reason this is even a debate is bc Dumbfuck has been so against wearing a mask himself, for his own narcissistic reasons.

If you aren't wearing a mask, you might not be a bad person at your core. But you are a Cunt. It doesn't affect anything, and can only help. You aren't going to get sick from wearing a mask (overwhelmingly unlikely), and if the mask is some sort of health issue for you, sure, there is some of that which is true, but it's also highly unlikely the case for most.

It's gross, and we are gross as a society. The workers of these now once again open businesses are open, and the employees are wearing masks to mitigate risks. Many have signs up saying, "FACE COVERING REQUIRED". Neither enforced (or enforceable I'm sure) nor abided. So, people not wearing a mask are essentially saying, "fuck you" to the people working there.

Disgusting.

I'm not happy he is having a rally.

I'm happy he moved it off of the 19th because I felt it was intentionally disrespecting the Juneteenth holiday. I'm sure it wasn't his decision completely, so I'm not giving trump any credit personally, but I'm glad someone with his ear helped nudge him in the right direction.

No you weren't.

There is 1 person (maybe 2 depending on who is and who isn't banned) on this entire board that would even consider attending a trump rally....especially during covid19...so miss me with the "I'm just asking questions to learn BS".

The waiver exists solely to protect team trump (whoever that is) from being sued.

Remember, many of these are the "open the economy up fully" people...so they've already demonstrated that money matters more than lives. Shouldn't come as a surprise at this point.

No I get it.

Some of you are making a dumb stance that "if there is no risk then why the need for a waiver". Its not complicated. I think nearly everyone agrees there is a risk. Even many of the people who will attend....and you are conveniently (on purpose) ignoring the high likelihood someone will get covid19 there and without the waiver would potentially have the ability to sue (who they would be filing the lawsuit against i don't have the slightest idea?).

So many more productive things to spend your time worrying about imo.

I think holding the rally is stupid/dangerous to not only those attending but the rest of us.

I beg to differ.

Doesn't mean I can't make time to "worry" about the fact that we have a President who is a piece of shit and those who attend his "rallies" now have to acknowledge the virus is very real by signing the waiver.

Here is my question, what rights do I have (as some who will NOT attend a rally) to sue the fuck out of someone who attended a "rally", contracted the virus there, and spread it to me?
I know the answer to my question.
Just another reason why the rallies and our President are nothing more than - a bad joke and a shit show.

I'm with you on the rally being dangerous to more than just those attend. It shouldn't be happening.

Although Oklahoma is already allowing thousands of people to attend to baseball games so this seems par for the couese in that state.

I think the disconnect is that many/most people agree the virus is "real", but many trump supporters (and some non-trump supporters too I'm sure) don't agree how dangerous the virus is to the vast majority of people. Doesn't make it right, but the reality is that the government cant control people who don't want to sit at home for the foreseeable future. Some people don't care about getting the virus or spreading it. Those people are assholes.
