Granola bars

Post by ousdahl »

Are there any out there that aren’t so sugary you might as well just eat a candy bar?

Would there even be a market for it? Besides me and 99

Doesn’t seem like it’s that hard to make your own. Maybe substitute some corn flakes for wheat germ or other unsweetened cereal and lower sugar content to taste.

The sugar maybe necessary to form into bars, as a binder. But you may be able to get chunks quite easily

That was what I was thinking...that sugars help it stay in bar form.

I think it’s quite easy to get “clusters”. Actual bars maybe a challenge - You’ll get something better than trail mix but short of bars. Unless you’re looking for a no-sugar preparation. In which case trail mix is probably the best you’re going to get 😄

I opened a fresh box of granola bars the other day and the first one I opened from the wrapper was so dry, saw dust flew out. *poof* *cough* *cough*

Starting to get this one dialed in:

Oats
Peanut butter
Coconut
Hemp seeds (the store has been so picked over by y’all that it was out of flax)
Chocolate chips (pure cacao don’t be a bitch)
Drizzling of honey

Mash it all together then flatten/press in a pan and refrigerate. It doesn’t stick together like a normal granola bar, but a normal granola bar is mostly corn syrup. The recipe is actually for “protein balls” but you can bar it up if you mix and press it well enough. I go light on the honey too, but more would help make it stick.

Even beav likes them, and he’s normally opposed to my “stupid healthy food.”

Yeah those protein balls are legit. My wife makes them here and there and they are outstanding. She mostly started making them to help her lactate when she was nursing our kids. Flax seed helps with that 😜

But yeah those are great to have as a snack. Tough to stop at one or two when I eat them .
