Man, even you have to agree that Redskins was pretty far down the rabbit hole of racism. Skin color mascots were not a great idea. I still say they'll go two syllables. I am advocating they rename themselves the Washington Kumquats. "Hail to the Kumquats! Small sticky treats."

Re: Redskins
Racism is a belief than one race is superior to another. Celebrating different skin color in the form of a sports name is not racist -- it's a compliment to them. I think the actual people who are racist are the ones that see it in places where it doesn't exist.Sparko wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 12:31 pmMan, even you have to agree that Redskins was pretty far down the rabbit hole of racism. I'll add that I probably have more right to speak about this than most on here, as my grandma was Native American.
From an actual Native American:
"I'm Native American. My wife is Native American. Our kids are Native American. We have lived on a reservation. I challenge the social justice warriors to take a poll of all Native American tribes, ON THEIR RESERVATIONS. The results will absolutely SHOCK you. The vast majority of Native Americans that I have known my entire life take great pride in those logos. We wear those logos in our daily apparel as we are PROUD of our heritage ! This mostly stems from the dem party and their operatives. They would like to abolish all things related to Native Americans so that we are either disliked or forgotten completely. That would make it much easier for the feds to then steal what little land we have left and nobody would bat an eye. The name redskins was used by tribes to describe themselves before others ever did. Did you all know that? I have no problem with Washington keeping or changing their name, but I'd be very upset if the logo disappears. Maybe rename the team "Warriors" and leave the uniforms and logo exactly the same. That would be a fair compromise. Stop punishing Native Americans by removing all logos that honor our heritage."

Re: Redskins
You know I am Native American? Sounds like you might be racist.

Re: Redskins
Racism is one disparages people thoughtlessly. Remember the Boston Drunken Irishmen NFL team? I don't either.
Re: Redskins
"Disparages" is in the eye of the beholder. It's like trying to define what hate speech is.

Re: Redskins
Redskins implied rampaging indigenous people of savage, uncivilized character in the Gabby Hayes lexicon of casual racism. Not sure where it was ever an honorific.
Re: Redskins
Changed their name from Washington Redskins to D.C. Redskins. Everyone happy now?
Re: Redskins
The point is, anything and everything can be "racist" in 2020, even Native Americans commenting on Native American issues. Woke culture is ruining America.

Re: Redskins
Everything can be construed less than positively, but there are hot-button racist terms which offend The masses by literal definition. The terrible names for more recent Asian enemies would not have made it to RFK stadium for example.

Re: Redskins
Whether true or not that is a new one. Now if I was a Kiowa or Lakota I could see having pride in the logo. It was modeled after Iron Tail, who was a Lakota. His image was what America thought at the time all Native peoples looked like. A 'noble' savage who counted coup on his enemy, hunted the buffalo, had a feather headdress and lived as one with the land. The problem with just the logo is that it completely marginalizes Native people as just one type. Inuit people don't look like that. Neither do the Eastern Woodlands people. As far as the term 'redskin' goes. It started out as a definition, coined by early Europeans to distinguish the difference between whites and Natives. Native people caught on to the term and did use it as a descriptive term but as time has progressed the word has become increasingly more racists in its description.
I can only speak for the Northern plains people but this 'controversy' over a name might as well be taking place on the moon. They have way bigger and closer to home issues to worry about. Even changing this name does nothing. It still doesn't or wont change the 'real' issues facing a good majority of Native people.

I've said many times, I don't care if you or anyone believes me. That's not my goal here. And besides, you would dismiss my sources anyway.Grandma wrote: ↑Mon Jul 13, 2020 4:10 pmI asked you what the source was for this. I'm still waiting.

Not sure what's your goal here (on this site) other than reading and posting things and getting attention.
