I would call it swagger, but not in a cocky manner. I think he would be pretty humble if he wanted to be himself, but he also needs to rally the team, which is why he has to do some flexes and stuff. He also makes sure his teammates are getting the credit for his passes and not showboating. He's doing the league minimum of cocky things just to keep the team engaged.

Cocky to me would be like Mayfield or Russ.

And to your above point with injuries, a season ending injury isn't uncommon, but I'm hard pressed to think of QBs that had career enders outside the freak accidents. Feels like QBs are treated with kids gloves so much now that it's basically touch football with them. Another reason why locking him down for a long time before his prime is so smart.

Concussions is the easiest answer. He does feel to me like a guy who would cut bait after two or three.

Yeah, that's a good point. Trying to think of QBs that had a history of concussions. Usually it feels like anything small stagger a player is taken out for a few drives, and I can't think of any QB that really had more than one actual concussion a season. But just takes one shot to become Steve Young.

Cocky has such a negative connotation in my mind, and I’ve never been put off by anything g he says or does in interviews.

I don’t count any of the mic’ed yo stuff to other teammates as cocky, although it would be if said to the press before or after games in many cases. It’s just being a great competitor.

I of course see this through red glasses, but: I'm hopeful that, if that was a concussion in the first place, he'll pass protocols pretty easily. It looked as likely as anything else that his neck got wrenched (perhaps that his carotid was blocked for a moment), and he didn't actually take a shot that bounced his brain around.

All that said - this week will be revealing, as far as whether very outspoken concussion alarmists (known to include yours truly!) are committed to their principles.

It’s a five step process so ideally you clear it day by day. Of course that all varies between the official injury designation and the severity.
If I had to choose one player to bet on to play from a scenario like this it would be Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes (concussion) will have a "light practice" Wednesday.

Mahomes has "no symptoms" but remains in the concussion protocol. He'll likely be listed as limited or DNP. The Chiefs plan to ramp up Mahomes's reps later in the week. Mahomes is also dealing with a foot injury, but this puts him on track to start in the AFC Championship against the Bills.

At least from my understanding of the protocol the most he could do today from a practice stand point is individual work so that designation would be limited. That is encouraging news and hopefully trending towards him playing on Sunday. One silver lining from him getting 'knocked out' on Sunday was that it allowed the medical team to start immediately working on his foot and that it didn't get any worse.

Chiefs are banged up but it will also be interesting to see what if any reps the following get
1. Breeland (because of Mahomes we haven't heard anything about him)
2. CEH
3. Hammy Watkins
4. Fenton
5. Gay

Corner depth right now is a little light so you would like to see Fenton and Breeland both playing on Sunday.

My guess is Breeland is doubtful. I think his was actually blunt force to the head and Mahomes was kind of a choke out.

My guess is that CEH will play since he practiced a bit last week. Sammy will play for same reasons. Fenton is questionable and Gay is questionable.

Chiefs usually follow these steps when player is injured. Limited practice for a day or two. Sit out the game. Then come back to practice limited on Wednesday and then full on Thursday and Friday and play on Sunday.

I don't even remember Breeland getting hit. Just saw him in the tent. He is probably the Chiefs best corner but he struggles with the kind of WRs that the Bills have. Diggs, Brown, and Beasley are all smaller, shifty guys. Not a great match up for a long, physical rangy corner like Bree. Still would like him out there.

Unless he had set backs you have to figure at least CEH will be back because he at least practiced in some capacity last week. Unless I'm wrong none of the rest of the remaining guys I mentioned even practiced last week so I don't feel confident about any one of them.
