What's not safe about it as a parent? The disease is no worse than the flu for kids.

It's the teachers, and the at- risk parents/caregivers that I'm worried about. And the person who can't get treated at the hospital for something else because the ICU is full.

Probably, you know, all the people that kid is going to spread it to, including the parents, grandparents, neighbors, essential workers, the dozen of other folks that a kid will come in contact with. And acting like the flu is NBD has been insane. I’ve had the flu three times, mono once, and never been ill of minor colds outside of that. The flu times all have been terrible, all which I was out of commission for a week at least. There is a reason all of us who are fortunate enough to get flu shots get them. The flu is really bad. Acting like we should accept the flu is appalling. Having to get the flu, roll a pair of dice you will be in the emergency room if you get 11 or above, then dying if you again get 10 or above, should not be acceptable.

Someone I've known at work for several years lost his wife to covid 3 weeks ago. I'm very well aware of how dangerous it is. She was in her 60s and had underlying conditions. Her husband told us that he even believes there's nothing we can really do to stop it other than if no one goes out. If you're in the same office building, it's going to spread just by air circulation.

So in other words, you're cool if a Governor wants to basically send kids and teachers in to a mine field?
I'm not saying kids and teachers shouldn't be going back to school but I sure as heck would be understanding if they were extremely fearful to do as such.

Monday Tuesday group. Then virtual Wednesday for everyone (so they can clean). Then a Thursday Friday group. Masks. Shortened days. "Trying" to distance as much as possible. Temperature checks. Quarantine rooms if someone gets sick or has a fever.

Or fully remote.

We chose fully remote. We both have flexible work schedules and both sets of grandparents are retired to fill in the gaps if needed. There are downsides to either choice, but for us the downsides for virtual were far less than in person. She is a sweet girl and socially i am not worried about her. She was more scared about going to school and "getting nina and papa or my (*her*) little brother sick".

Sounds like you have some good options. I am feeling pretty "stuck with sending them" right now. There is zero chance that I could ask my to-be senior in high school to stay home.

My 2nd grader is my big question mark. Our school system hasn't really defined what their remote learning consists of. If it consists of how they finished the year then that's a hard "no" vote. That was basically a waste of time.

Iam still home for the foreseeable future but not forever. We only have one grandparent in town here and she is pretty unreliable at being available for the kids lately. Her social calendar since her husband died has become her top priority, which is her right. But she is really of no help. And my wife has taken on some additional work to try to help recoup some lost income so her time will be less reliable.

Overall, I think my kids mental health will be better if they go back to school, especially considering what it would be like if they were home. I'd feel a lot better if the schools had presented their full plans full how things will looking behave. Fingers crossed.
