Pac 12 going to follow this afternoon too.

By the end of today, something like 53 of the 130+ D1 teams will not be playing football this fall.
I'm trying to do the math, (Pac 12 = 12) + (Big Ten = 14) + (MAC = 12) = 38. Where are the other 15 from?

Or are you saying even if KU doesn't cancel, whatever it is doing on the field isn't considered "playing" football?

Yikes, SEC is banking on Big 12 playing. I wonder what suicide pact is going on in the background.

(sorry for the flooding, just a lot going on)

It sounds like Nebraska is still trying to play. I wonder how that would work if they go independent this season.

Man, money is going to be a mess. You won't have fans in stands. You have to rely on TV money, which is often funneled to teams through their conferences. How will Nebraska get any money without BigTen Network, Fox or ESPN money that goes through the BigTen. They'll have to be independent contractors on TV. Networks might have to set up deals directly with schools and not the conferences.

It's going to be a fucking mess.

Wonder if Big 12 has any animosity for A&M and Mizzou.

Feels like Texas, OU, Baylor and KSU would be on board for keeping going. KU, ISU, OSU and Tech for suspending. Not sure how TCU and WVU go.

Curious the reasoning in the KU in favor of suspending. Would they have rescheduled a game just a couple of weeks ago if they were in favor of less games? I don't know.

But yes kstate is very public in saying they want to play. And Texas and OU will want to play all the time no matter where. That's how much football means to them.

It sounds like it's not the AD that's making these decisions, but the presidents/chancellors of the universities. I'm judging by are there in-person classes, and how much the AD has pull on each school, as well as the culture of each school (ISU and KU being more liberal, Baylor being a Baptist school).

I guess I didn't realize Iowa State is that liberal. Considering they play "Farmageddon at Arrowhead" every year with the mouth breathers to the west.

But I see your viewpoint now.

Mountain West (12 teams) UCONN, UMASS. So actually 52 teams.

Probably not as liberal as U of Iowa, but much more so than say Baylor. These are just prelim views to put all the pressure on TCU. I actually don't know how any of the schools would vote.

Interesting thought. Why set a schedule and then completely change it days later..?

I brought it up a few pages ago, that canceling the season could be an effort to stymie any unionization of the players. I don't think there's enough there. I think schools are probably getting closer to remote learning, and that's what's changing.

If you believe the reports, at least for the Big 10 this was one of the reasons why there view point changed...
“Myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle, has been found in at least five Big Ten Conference athletes and among several other athletes in other conferences, according to two sources with knowledge of athletes' medical care.“ Apparently 10 players tested positive which was an ‘alarming’ high rate. Enough that the brass thought to themselves that this could open up a .1% chance for future lawsuits down the road.

I can see why the PAC 12 opted out. Almost of their schools are going online only but the Big 10 is interesting considering I think all but two schools are going with at least some sort of in person classes. Not safe enough for football but safe enough to be on campus?
Really there was never going to be a consensus slam dunk move for these schools.

I don't think it's about the players (as much as I'd like that). I think it's because it's becoming quite clear that the worst is yet to come for this part of the country. It's just taking a while to accept that.
