...so?

I suppose if he said something like, “I’m gonna go get my knife and take on a bunch of cops pointing guns at me in front of my kids, then maaaaybe.

But I kinda doubt he said that.

Even if he had the knife on him, so?

In the vids it’s clear he wasn’t doing acting in a threatening way. Sure, maybe a resisting and defiant way, but did he do anything threatening, or really enough to justify a “fear for my life” defense? Are cops gonna argue he was gonna take them all on with a knife? In front of his kids?

again, I dunno if anything he did warrants getting shot, point blank, in the back, 7 times.
His GF is the one who called the cops on him and said he had a knife iirc.

And there are conflicting reports about him saying something about getting a gun from his car and that is why the girl in the video is seen yelling at him "stop! do you do it! dont you do it!" as he is going towards his car with the police following him.

Either way, at a certain point (this point has long passed) cops have to stop guessing what is going to happen and wait for there to truly be a threat to their life before shooting people (especially 7 times, in the back, at point blank range)....like how scared can 2 guys be of 1 guy with a knife who is walking away from them? Tackle the guy. Hold him down. Do something. You cant just shoot him and figure the rest out later. It is insane.

And of course there should be an investigation. But I just can’t think of any other investigation - especially of an attempted murder investigation caught on video - that would take so long to come to any conclusion...that is, unless it’s yet another video of yet another cop shooting a black man in the back.

First part: my goodness...do you have black friends? How about black friends over the age of 50? Of course we have come a long way since MLK Jr. We still have a long way to go though, no doubt about it.

Second part: it hasnt taken that long....not doing this the correct way and charging the cop with the correct charges he will be found guilty on would be a massive mistake....this will play out in the Chauvin case first and because of their choice of charges could be exactly why he walks free and is found not guilty. The process matters... but actually achieving punishment for these guys is what needs to occur. Not just charging them with something they wont be convicted of for the sexy headline.

Regarding your first point, LOL don’t be a silly illy. Of course I don’t have any friends!

And to your second point, would any other shooting caught on video take this long to investigate? I know they wanna make sure they come up with charges that stick, but it almost comes across as if they’re more so trying to come up with some way to shrug it off under “qualified immunity.”

He's not a member of a police officers union. There's no doubt that there are extra steps and procedures that need to be followed to investigate a police officer. Good or bad, the resulting delays result in community friction and social media uproar.

I wish that police forces involved on these things were much more forthright with information and made a better attempt to communicate the status of what is happening. If done properly, it could help to diffuse some of these situations.

Perhaps one of the things that the BLM protests are calling for, and one of the things that would result in fewer protests, is a more prompt and transparent administration of justice in cases of alleged police brutality.

sure, and i get that

but, i also think that is exactly part of the problem (which may be what you were getting at in your second paragraph)

100% of the police force should wear body cameras. This should be mandatory. It should be a law. Figure it out...

I don't disagree. We could argue/discuss semantics all day and night long but he's a single thing to ponder.
Sometimes cops have to make split second decisions. If someone I care about's life is on the line and the difference between their living and dying was that a cop had to take a few seconds to turn on his/her body-cam and make sure it was properly working - then I am not going to be a happy guy.

Of course a flip side of that is..... Someone I care about is WRONGFULLY shot and killed by a cop and it's someone's word against a cop's word and a cop's body-cam video would prove he/she acted in a "wrong" manner, then I would be pissed that the cop didn't use the body-cam.

I think body cams have some technology that turn it on and retroactively record the previous 30 seconds before it is?

But yeah, how sad is it that body cams are to bring justice for civilians against cops much more so than the other way around.

Of the protesters out past curfew who were shot and either injured or killed:
"Persons who were out after the curfew became engaged in some type of disturbance, and persons were shot. Everybody involved was out after the curfew. I’m not going to make a great deal of that, but the point is the curfew is in place to protect. Had persons not been out involved in violation of that, perhaps the situation that unfolded would not have happened."

Of the vigilante out past curfew who shot and killed two people:
“Across this nation there have been armed civilians who have come out to exercise their constitutional right and to potentially protect property,” he said. “Am I aware that groups exist? Yes, but they weren’t invited to come.”

it’s simple...as soon as the cop leaves their patrol car, the camera turns on

or, as soon as they remove their firearm, tazer, whatever, from their belt the camera turns on

we’ve got the technology to make this happen

Jeez Chief, they’re teeing this up for you.

If he’s going the character-assassination-on-one-side route, dude might as well come out and say the protestors had weed in their system too.

Nah, just stuffing a bag of weed in the dead guy's pocket would do.

This is exactly why these riots are so dangerous. People get caught up in the moment and do something that they normally wouldn't (like trying to kick someone in the face who has a rifle). Many lives that shouldn't have been lost are lost during these stupid riots.

There's no way this kid should be charged with murder, but the media is going to press for this. He was simply defending himself against these violent thugs.

they also do something they normally wouldn’t, like, drive to another state with an illegal assault rifle looking for trouble.

That’s when the protests turn to riots.

But hey, go figure lobster wants to blame the ones trying to disarm that guy instead.

“That poor poor militant extremist!”

Had he been disarmed, he likely would have been murdered by the thugs.
