My family is certainly not anti religion. I don't remember my dad ever going to church. I went with my mom occasionally. I was baptized and went thru confirmation at our Presbyterian Church. But we weren't like regulars by any means. Did youth group stuff and went on ski trips and BS like that...but i don't consider myself religious. My daughter was baptized in a Catholic Church solely because my wife's grandmother wanted it so we did it to make her happy (which I was fine with). My son is not baptized. Neither of my kids have ever attended a single church service.

If they grow up and want to do church shit then i will let them. If not, they won't be forced.

I pray to the golf gods on sundays anyway. 🤙

Imagine being a Jew having "premarital" "protected" (she was on the pill) sex with a girl in HS who wore a cross around her neck and had Jesus on a Cross hanging in the room where/when we were having sex.
Talk about me thinking this was the perfect definition of hypocritical bullshit!

i went to church up until the point my folks stopped “forcing me”...about age 13

i’ve attended services of many christian denominations, and never found any of them all that different in substance

Not unreal at all. This is politics as usual.

And tbh, in my opinion i think if the roles were reversed the exact same thing would happen and many/most on the left would be fine with it and many/most on the right would be losing their minds.

Welcome to The USA in 2020. 🇺🇸
Again - what have Democrats done that is anything like this that would make you think they would do the same?

Illy has a both-sides instinct to him. I get it. But I think it's a false equivalency now, generally. It is clear that the GOP is willing to treat all of this with zero-sum gamesmanship, and the Democrats are not.

I know which approach is nobler. I also know which one is winning.

Common sense. There is no rule that says they can't, so why wouldn't they? Becuase Republicans said they shouldn't last time Obama had a chance?

Well, most of them said the exact same things in 2016 that the Republicans are saying now. They just didn't have the numbers that it mattered. So I actually agree with Illy here.

I am not even saying they'd be wrong for doing it. Because they wouldn't.

Only 1 side said it was improper and then the moment they had the power in their favor got amnesia about their statements. That is the republicans. So they are the only ones who look like hypocritical liars in this situation.

I just wish people would understand Trump’s main influence growing up was dirty trickster and disbarred lawyer Roy Cohn (“I’m not gay. I just like having sex with men.”) and was likely Trump’s first sexual experience, which explains Trump’s overcompensating and dirty tricks. Trump’s wives and side females were/are his beards.

They are the ones who ARE hypocritical liars in this situation. 2020 seems to be the Year of GOP hypocrisy so it's in line with everything else they do.

So be it. In this tit for tat world of US politics, it will be interesting to see what the response will be if the Dems win both the White House and the Senate and can hold the House.

2020 is just so gross.

It seems like it has gone by ridiculously fast. I am sure i am in the minority feeling that way though.

It has been a terrible year for so many. I feel very grateful that so far my 2020 has been really enjoyable. Lots of time with the kids. Lots of time golfing. No natural disasters in my area. And my family has all avoided covid so far....but still got another year or so before we are all out of the woods i think.

Exactly, "common sense". The term essentially is used to mean believing something without being able to back it up.

Republicans repeatedly said the people should get to choose when the election was 9 months away, and just 4 years later say the people have already chosen despite the fact the election has already started and despite the fact they set the precedent.

There is no equivalent that has been done by modern Democrats. All opinions are not equal. Ones based on facts are better.

It's not the exact same thing, not even close. One was nine months before the election, the other is during the election. And one is being done right after they set a precedent, the other was unprecedented in modern times.

That does scare me - the Republicans are now setting a precedent of throwing all ethics and norms out the door, and making up the rules as you go. If the Democrats get control of house/Senate/WH, I fear what they will do now.

There is no "rule" or "ethics" about this.

There is 1 single example, of the republicans making an excuse for why they weren't going to vote on a supreme court nomimee. It was pure pettiness/politics since Obama was in the last year of his 2nd term. They simply knew they could stall it out and they did it. They also could have just voted no.

Why would the democrats follow a rule that isn't even a rule just because the republicans said so that 1 time? They wouldn't. It would be stupid if they did imo.

Unfortunately they don't have the power to stop this. So there is a chance it is going to happen.

Like RBG said, a president is elected to 4 years. His power in year 4 is the same as his power in year 3. If people in the senate don't think his pick is deserving then they should vote no, just like RBG says.

Not to mention, if he wins again, then all this is pointless. So hopefully people get out and vote.
