No idea what you are talking about.Sparko wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 6:14 pmMitch McConnell is all about civil rights buddy. Jeebus. It is worth the watch btw.
This is an example. Spoon feeding articles like this to liberals to make sure they stay outraged or in fear. Multiple different ones a day to keep you glued fo whichever screen you are consuming on.
That documentary also spoke on pizzagate...which was spoonfed by Facebook to right wingers in the exact same way...so we may need to blame social media sites as much as QAnon for some of that. Hell, whoever is posting on QAnon sites got their info from somewhere (like Facebook or some form of social media).
Did i say something about Mitch McConnell?
Some of you are hilarious. The news i "watch" mostly comes from CNN and MSNBC....so another incorrect assumption since you view me as the "other side"... sounds like you watch a TON of objective news.
This country is fucked. Exactly because of posts like this. So divided. No idea who the real "enemy" is. You seem to think i am some super conservative which is freaking hilarious. Especially when I rarely vote for Republicans for ANYTHING on any level.
Re: RIP RBG
You haven’t been paying attention. Do you even think before you react?
Re: RIP RBG
Paying attention to every little word Mitch McConnell says? You are right. I have not. I try not to pay attention to anything that idiot says.

For the information impaired, McConnell and the Federalist Society have been packing the courts with dangerously unqualified ideologues for several years now after blocking Obama appointments for several years. It is all ideology and corruption. It threatens democracy now—and our civil rights.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 6:15 pmThe most sad part is that they shouldn't be imposing their personal ideology on anything. Maybe "we the people" should be the ones who vote on and elect supreme court justices (we probably couldn't vote on and elect all the various justices that are appointed, but for the supreme court we could) instead of the president/senate. It is supposed to be a seperate/equal branch of governement and it is slowly just becoming an arm of the political parties. Both parties only pick people who support "their" agendas. If the dems had control of the senate they'd probably be blocking the appointments that didn't fit their ideology/agenda, just as the republicans did to Obama. That is basically what this has turned into. The system is broken.
Re: RIP RBG
We must insist on more direct democracy. But first we literally must survive. COVID-19 is surging again. Trump stealing tax payer money to film feel-good ads about his handling of the crisis. $300M. A badly ideologocal court system enabling it. They pushed too far.

Those appointments are for life. At least we're only stuck with Trump for a max of 8 years.
Re: RIP RBG
So you want lifetime appointments made by donald trump? You think he "has any business" making lifetime appointments? I would rather trust the "ignorant masses" to vote on them....becuase let's be real, you think anyone who doesn't think/vote like you is "ignorant". Donald Trump got elected due to a perfect storm of factors (we have been over them ad nauseum). I don't think many of the people who voted for him are nearly as "ignorant" as you peg them (some voted simply due to their perception he would help their pocket books, others because they hated HC, others because they hate the dems/always vote republican). But there are definitely plenty of ignorant people from both sides, so i will give you that.twocoach wrote: ↑Fri Sep 25, 2020 10:45 pmWe The People put Donald Fucking Trump in the White House. I would always rather trust the people rather than 1 person.
Even if you think you are smarter/superior to people you view as "ignorant" their voice/vote matters just as much as yours whether you like it or not. That is a great thing about our country, even if it is frustrating at times for the party on the losing end.
If you don't want ignorant masses making choices on important positions of power then you live in the wrong country. Maybe China would be a better fit.

Citizens are not equipped to make decisions on lifetime appointments. The vast majority do very little research into anyone on their ballot outside of the core candidates. Is Donald Trump? Also no. So hopefully we can vote him out and put in someone more capable.
Re: RIP RBG
I don’t know the best way to appoint Justices. That said, there HAS to be a term limit on them as well as anyone in politics. 20 years seems fair to me. It’s a long time, but a SCJ is a high honor.

Where's Lobster to tell us about how ridiculous "because she is a woman" is as a requirement for this pick? When it was rumored that Biden wanted to choose a female for VP, we had to sit through endless blabbering about how sexist and discriminatory that was.sdoyel wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 12:52 am “ Nobody should care that Barrett is Catholic, or “very” Catholic, or “super” Catholic. Now? The idea of having a female SC judge rule against Roe vs. Wade is just fine.
From the article:
“The main reason I favor Barrett, though, is the obvious one: She’s a woman…. If Roe v. Wade is ever overturned—as I certainly hope it will be, as it is an unjust decision with no plausible basis in the Constitution—it would be better if it were not done by only male justices, with every female justice in dissent.”
Re: RIP RBG
Like Phog Allen being forced to retire just before getting the chance to coach Wilt due to an ignorant mandatory retirement age, I dont see a reason for such an arbitrary end point.
I don't know what tools are in place to remove a judge appointed to a lifetime position if it becomes abundantly clear they are not performing their job competently. If there isn't one, I 'd like to see it be put in place. Every governmental position should be subject to audit, review and potential removal.
Re: RIP RBG
SCJ and any judge seat should be a nonpartisan/bipartisan sort of appointment. The founding fathers didn’t want political slant in the courts, and tried to design a system to prevent that.
People have forgotten that.
Meanwhile, Mitch and co. have made it a shamelessly partisan thing, with their killing of the supermajority, unwillingness to hear any dem appointees, and zealous pursuit of confirming anyone nominated by the pubs.
But, ask a pub, and it’s the dems politicizing it.

If anything, 2020, Trump and McConnell have exposed the fallibility of the Founding Fathers
Re: RIP RBG
We're nearly 250 years removed from them so it's no knock on their work that we're experiencing some growing pains. The official population was only about 2.5 million in the US in 1776 and we were only a small fraction of our current land mass. I doubt any of them could conceive of the world we live in today.
The mechanisms to make adjustments as we go exist. If we treat the Constitution as a framework to build upon and not just a Bible to be translated then we will continue to evolve as a nation.
