The problem is that this assumes good faith. Unless the MAGA fever really breaks, and the GOP reforms itself (or good-faith conservatives form a new Conservative party), you can bet your ass that as soon as they’re given the opportunity, the Republicans will weaponize the DOJ and other levers against Biden, Harris et al.
“will” weaponize the DOJ

Barr behaves completely above board to you?

Just checked Fox News.

The headlines include several stories about the crooked Bidens, including a gop report linking Hunter to a human trafficking ring, before any mention of the Trump tax story.

The most frightening thing about this is that I think he actually believes it made/makes him smart.
His ACTING as if he actually knows the tax laws/rules better than the IRS, his accountants, and his financial advisors, doesn't really fool this idiot.

It's Yom Kippur so maybe I should wait until tomorrow to share how I feel in terms of what consequences I hope he faces.

And though I’m not a fan of NYT not naming their sources, Trump could also prove his own allegations of Fake News and make the NYT look like a bunch of idiots by releasing, like, just one page of his returns.

But he won’t

and we all know why.

we’ve seen what happens to “sources” and “whistleblowers” with this administration

personally, i’ve got no problem with them staying anonymous. the ultimate result is the same, but at least they won’t be slandered and have death threats against them

Agreed.

I am sure he has massive amounts of depreciation expense (a non cash "expense") and massive amounts of interest paid to banks. So it is not hard to believe that he takes a loss or close to it nearly every year.

I like depreciation expense in theory. It helps in various ways...but maybe there should be a limit on it? Feels like at a certain point it is just a loop hole to avoid taxes.

Why should the NYT name its sources? One, there is the possibility of reprisal etc. Two, they could well be in a position to continue to provide newsworthy information.

Double edged sword.

Once Biden wins Fox is probably going to start having unnamed sources coming out of the woodwork with negative information about him.

Slippery slope. Not sure i trust journalists to investigate whether what their unnamed sources are saying is even true. Not sure if truth is always all that important nowadays. It is mostly about being first and getting clicks.

Why are you so intent on both-sidesing all of this?

Whatever the GOP has on Biden will come out before Election Day, you can be sure of that.

And the fact is that he’s been in public politics for nearly five decades. There’s just not likely to be anything consequential at this point.

They haven't learned by now that you can't beat Trump by trying to make him look bad. No one cares. If people cared, he would have lost after the "grab 'em by the pussy" tape came out. You can only beat Trump by offering a candidate who is better, and that's not happening this time. Biden is horrible, and Harris is even worse.
