who ya got?
Re: who ya got?
Assembly and petition for redress of grievances is a right. Following Putin’s script to sow social unrest by attacking demonstrators, planting rioters under an Antifa banner as a straw man to legitimize the attack on protestors is not a right. It was a reelection strategy of a horrible, cynical party and gullible sycophants.

I'm legitimately curious as to who he was talking about.. I don't want to research. I'm an hour away from vacation and have no motivation to do anything.
i think were definitely people there that didn’t want to see the statues come down, and i’m sure some of them were/are indeed “fine” people. but those people were the minority, and weren’t the subject of the questioning that led to trump’s statement
i don’t with those that think the statues should stay - i think they should be removed and put in a museum
Without being there it is hard to say how many were there that would qualify as peaceful protestors on either side (for or against removal). My guess, like yours, is that they were the minority because i have to imagine it was such a bad environment that most reasonable people wouldn't have felt safe there.
And agree, that like you said, trump tried to go out of his way to get to the "fine people" which were irrelevant to condemning the violent behavior that went down. He should have just stuck to condemning the white supremacists and "antifa". He didn't becuase he sucks and is dumb.
I also agree the monuments should be in museums. That is not "erasing history" and many of the people who claim such aren't exactly history experts anyway who have such a strong desire for public monuments to admire for Educational purposes. They are often just racist pieces of shit. Plenty of important/historic things reside in museums where they rightfully should be....my guess is some of the "you're erasing history people" couldn't pass a multiple choice test about the people being removed. They are also probably the type of people born and raised in the Midwest or north who rock confederate flags even though they have ZERO ties to the confederate army or "southern heritage". Those people are just racists.

I am sorry, but the fake antifa stuff (republicans pretending to be antifa "supporters" or whatever we should call them) is few and far between most likely. There are plenty of antifa supporters who do violent/destructive shit. Just because they aren't an organized group with a cool webpage/twitter page like the proudboys (no idea if they actually have one) doesn't make them any less problematic.Sparko wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:46 pm Assembly and petition for redress of grievances is a right. Re: who ya got?
No. It was the strategy. There might be some anti fascists stupid enough to help the fascist cause, but the exercise was designed to move violence up to a scale of martial law so the elections could be cast into doubt. The courts made some key interventions, but the protesters began to understand their chance for justice lay in voting out authoritarian rabble.
Re: who ya got?
Fair enough. I do feel that some/many people who agree with the "antifa" movement (in theory/principles) are reasonable people....but much like the BLM movement the violent/destructive minority get all the "play" in the conservative media.Sparko wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:56 pm No. It was the strategy. Some of the anti-facists act actually end up acting like facists, which is always ironic to see.

Then you should do a little more research on the Unite The Right rally, who organized it, who participated in it and why they were really there.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:35 pmi don’t agree with thistwocoach wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:32 pmThe "very fine people" who were only there protesting the removal of a Confederate monument, which was exactly zero people.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:25 pm

It wasn't like a bunch of white nationalists showed up to someone else's peaceful protest over Confederate monuments. They WERE the protest.

Confederate statues aren't "historic". They were not part of the Civil War. They had no part in it. They are no different than a Confederate flag and have no place in our society any more.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:49 pmWell said.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:35 pmi don’t agree with this

that said (and i could very easily be wrong, and conflating other statue protests), i don’t know for certain that EVERYONE on “that side” were in support of the movement, and that there weren’t some there that were truly just protesting the removal of the statues
but like i said, i could very easily be wrong

Re: who ya got?
There were organizations who were dedicated to and against the removal of the statues AND against the unite the right group/rally. Those organizations publicly condemned the hate groups involved with the unite the right protest fwiw. I think they even took part in candlelight vigils in the days that followed.twocoach wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 4:11 pmThen you should do a little more research on the Unite The Right rally, who organized it, who participated in it and why they were really there.TraditionKU wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 3:35 pmi don’t agree with this

Now, how many of those people were there the day of the actual incident where the girl was killed? Who knows, i assume they were in the minority (and hopefully smart enough to leave when white supremacists and "antifa" showed up because those groups were only there to violently clash). But you weren't there so your research of reading CNN articles and watching MSNBC may leave you "assuming too much" too.
....but yes, the people soley there for the actual "unite the right" rally were not very fine people (there i go assuming again, but i feel pretty safe in that assumption).....

Re: who ya got?
and maybe (probably?) trump was too stupid to know that none of the "fine people" against the removal of the statues were even there to protest the removal that day/at that time becuase if they were such "fine people" they would also be against ANYTHING that had to do with white supremacists.
(Edit: from what i can find officially documented there was a difference in the Friday night protest, which was clearly ONLY white supremacists, and Saturday protests which "maybe" had some of those peaceful protestor types....but it is hard to find much that says they were anything but a very small minority....so like we have said, trump should have never tried to mention those people when being asked about the death of the girl and the violent white supremacists. It was totally irrelevant, insensitive, and just downright stupid....but in the end i do not believe he was saying the white supremacists were very fine people.)

Re: who ya got?
There is a viral tweet he is asking to resign in return for a pardon and leniency from the SDNY. That is ass-backwards because a Pardon would innocculate him from the SDNY. The State of NY on the other hand is preparing an indictment for various tax and foundation scams, but would not play a role in a resignation in all likelihood. I do think he should resign and get his defense attorneys arrayed. Or just isolate and try to survive COVID. The tweet does sound like wistful thinking knowing the yam yeti.
