Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Need to read this paper. I know the older studies they mentioned used significantly higher titers of virus than what a person would generate through coughing/sneezing/talking...so if this is at the level of peak infection, I wonder how it lasts longer.
I'd also be interested in knowing how they tested for virus, if it's PCR based, that's just telling you the nucleotides haven't degraded yet, not necessarily that you have virions capable of infection.
Though, I never liked the way fomite-transmission was downplayed so much. I think it's likely not the most common route of transmission, but I don't think it should be ignored.
I only came to kick some ass...

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Told someone yesterday that if he believed God would protect him from the virus he is nuts.
He had a nice comeback. He asked me if I can prove God hasn't and won't continue to protect him (and others) from the virus.
I responded, No. I can NOT prove that God hasn't protected them from the virus.
Then I asked him if he can "prove" to me that God actually exists.
Guess what? He didn't respond.
If people truly believe God can protect them from the virus then why do they do anything precautionary in their lives? Why bother? Why wouldn't God protect them from EVERYTHING? Why just the virus?

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Serious question for any attorneys on here.
About an hour ago I heard on a police scanner that there was an adult, couldn't tell if she said Asian or Caucasian (I think she said Asian), male, wearing a gray sweater and black jeans, who is/was yelling at and coughing on people and not wearing a mask - at Flat Top Grill on South Wabash.
If I was there and decided to haul off on the guy and I hurt him, would I be in legal trouble for doing as such?
My guess is I would have to be able to claim and somehow prove it was self-defense.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Oh!
So there was a new outbreak at a city in China.
The city responded by testing all its residents. All 9 million.
Could Merica do that, even if a larger scale yet? Would that not go a long long way toward turning the corner?
Even if we could agree on who would pay for it and manufacture it and other logistics, would we even go for it? Or would the argument shift to some critical mass refusing to get tested, because mah rights?

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
No. And I don't think china can either.
Obviously we have don a shitty job testing and should be doing WAYYYY better. But that's fairy tale bullshit.
And yes, tons would fight it because of privacy and freedoms.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
Dang.
If I was in charge, I would call for every single American to be issued a dozen easy self serve tests to administer over the course of a month or so.
Even if half of Mericans refused, we’d still be twice as far along as otherwise.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
If every citizen could apply for a in-home test kit that would be mailed to them, that’d be ideal.
If every citizen was mailed an in-home test kit and had to mail or upload the results under threat of punishment, that’d be shitty.

Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
A person from my city has now tested positive for the 2nd time allegedly. 1st was about 5 or 6 months ago. 2nd time this weekend. Strange. My guess is 2 different strains or the 1st was a false positive? If you can get it more than 1 time then it is a game changer.
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
it’s been known for some time that reinfection is a thing

I was finding mixed opinions on that...TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 7:32 am it’s been known for some time that reinfection is a thing
Re: COVID-19 - On the Ground
My concern with how long this has been allowed to continue is that the antibodies in those that were the early cases are diminishing enough that they'll be infectable again and their belief that they are less likely to get it will lead them to be less cautious.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 7:24 am A person from my city has now tested positive for the 2nd time allegedly. 1st was about 5 or 6 months ago. 2nd time this weekend. Hong Kong confirmed a patient getting it a second time back in late August. Was talked about in the medical community back into July.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 8:08 amI was finding mixed opinions on that...TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 7:32 am it’s been known for some time that reinfection is a thing

It is wild how mainstream "[science/fact] is a matter of opinion" has become.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 8:08 amI was finding mixed opinions on that...TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 7:32 am it’s been known for some time that reinfection is a thing

not saying you are guilty of this, but many mistake variations in evidence as mixed opinions or a lack of scientific consensusjfish26 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 9:30 amIt is wild how mainstream "[science/fact] is a matter of opinion" has become.IllinoisJayhawk wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 8:08 amI was finding mixed opinions on that...TraditionKU wrote: ↑Mon Oct 19, 2020 7:32 am it’s been known for some time that reinfection is a thing
it’s important for everyone to remember that we are still learning about covid, and that as more data become available, we gain a deeper understanding of the situation
science, very rarely, operates in absolutes...some (looking at psych) view this as a weakness
