an even more frightening perspective
Re: an even more frightening perspective
East Troublesome went from 30k to 125k thousand acres overnight.
In a matter of 12 hours, it became the 4th largest fire in CO history.
Structures burned up by grand lake, but no one quite sure how bad it is yet. Gonna get a better assessment come daylight. Firefighters working all night to try and save the town.
Some cold wet weather in the forecast this weekend, but dry and windy til then. Gonna be a long couple days.

2. if y’all’s hot tub is closed cuz of Covid, will y’all open it for us if we mention Covid is a hoax?
3. We know this property ain’t pet friendly, but will y’all make an exception for our yorkie poo?
4. We know y’all caught us with our yorkie poo after it dumped in the hot tub we wasn’t supposed to be in, but will y’all cut us some slack on the clean fee?
5. Can we get an early checkin?
Oh yeah, who can forget. Bonus question!
What are y’all doing to make sure this whole wildfire thing ain’t gonna ruin our vacation ?

Re: an even more frightening perspective
Are you far enough away that you won't be evacuated? Stay safe out there. I saw video of the brutal winds the firefighters were facing. What a disaster.
Re: an even more frightening perspective
100,000 acres of growth in less than 24 hours.
3 of the 4 largest wildfires in CO history happened this year, with the first and 4th biggest still burning.
East troublesome (4th largest) and Cameron peak (largest) less than 10 miles apart, and might join up.
Structures lost in Grand Lake. The whole golf course and a bunch of vacation homes. The general vibe is that within the next couple days the whole town will be gone.

Re: an even more frightening perspective
I work on the east side of Granby. The fire is closing in on the west side of Granby.
3 days ago it was a cloud of smoke off in the distance. This morning, I could see flames coming down the ridge on the edge of town.
It’s still a ways from my home in Fraser, 15 miles or so, and would have to pretty much take out the whole town of granby before it got there, but who knows how quick we might have to get out.
If there’s a silver lining, it’s the inspiring way the community has come together to offer help and refuge.

Mark off your bingo cards if you had “2020 turns Grand County into Mordor”
Re: an even more frightening perspective
Aaand there we have it:
Work brass just made the decision to call every every arrival for the next 2 weeks and tell them not to come, and call every in-house guest and tell them to leave.
For reference, they didn’t/wouldn’t even do this when the Covid shit hit the fan in March, until the county and state officials required them to.
In a way, this is so much more tangible.
We’ve had several calls today just from Grand Lake residents looking for lodging cuz their house burned down.

Re: an even more frightening perspective
(To which I tried to suggest as politely as possible: so sorry to hear your house burned down, but when seeking refuge from a wildfire, rather than rent a place in the next town over with flames on the ridge and about to be evacuated as well, why not just GTFO of wildfire country?)
Re: an even more frightening perspective
and now the wind picks up again today.
Fuck fuck fuck.

Re: an even more frightening perspective
All of RMNP closed. Apparently the fire jumped the continental divide somewhere in the park.
Granby, and now Estes Park too, under pre-evacuation orders.
I work behind this ridge, but when I go over it on my way home, this is the view looking down the hill into town:

Full evacuation order issued for granby.
I expected more of a party atmosphere when the sheriff commented, “it’s lit”

I’m laughing so hard my abs are burning!
For real, I’m hot with desire to keep these jokes going.

Re: an even more frightening perspective
I am genuinely worried for your safety and well being. Not too sure I can think of anything funny to say about it.
I have three friends (different places but near each other) who in the past hour posted....
We have evacuated. The fire to our south and west exploded overnight - grew more than 100,000 acres in a day. Entered RMNP, crossed the Continental Divide and is threatening Estes.
Heading to Greeley. Hope it’s only a few days.
We are evacuating.
Preparing for evacuation is like getting ready for tour! #NotMy1Rodeo
