i agree with at least part of ousie’s premise, that someone should be able to work 40hrs/week and at least not be in poverty

obviously there are exceptions, things like fast food being one of them, but generally a dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to, or should imo

Why shouldn’t fast food workers earn a living wage?

maybe they should?

personally, i don’t think anyone should be working fast-food 40hrs/wk

maybe it was a bad example

A lot of them do. Just not the ones that work for a few months, show up late, and then quit.

Managers and assistant managers make living wages.

And if fry droppers earned 60k a year then there wouldn't be a dollar menu.

Why do we need to get rid of the jobs that pay 8 bucks an hour? That's great experience and decent money for a HS kid. What if you like working at the concession stand at the ballfields on the weekends to earn a little extra cash, you don't want people to be able to do that for 30 bucks a Saturday anymore?

Why do you hate people gaining work experience or having a side hustle? You really do seem to hate the working man.

I guess you should only work in a career and you should only ever work to make money, any other reason and Ousdahl thinks you're a piece of shit.

I assume no one else watched him speak at The White House.
About 15 minutes ago he said, "Pfizer's China Vaccine".
Of course he said other idiotic things.
Looks like the guy has put on about 20 pounds in the last week.

He changed his hair dye and I think the orange pasty stuff he puts on his face.
I don't think he likes Cuomo either.

PERFECT assessment of what I observed and heard with/regarding our President today.
Well done!

Low pay usually attracts employees with the wrong attitude about work. So, what seems to be customer rudeness could actually be customer frustration over poor services.

Low pay may also attract managers lacking the skills to manage the workplace efficiently and effectively, drawing angry complaints from both frustrated customers and employees.

Apparently, there’s a case to be made for a better pay at McDonald’s. But the better pay should come with a higher contribution to the company, which requires better education and training, not political mandates like the one in Seattle and other cities around the country.

So managers can make a good living, but most staff is making 8 bucks an hour - as least as of the article 4 years ago.

there’s an argument that high pay could attract and retain better workers, and improve the customer experience (by remembering to omit the cheese on that quarter pounder)

And the CEO, as of last year, made $18 million, or almost 2000 times the average employee wage.

The McDonald’s corporation as a whole is worth damn near $200 billion dollars.

Now, sure, the exec of a multinational megacorporation should make a lot of money. But it’s a balance between handsomely rewarding executives, and suppressing wages as a matter of business model. I’ll go out on a limb and guess McDonald’s could afford to pay their employees more, they just choose not to.

Bear and mind, this ain’t no mom and pop burger joint just scraping by. What’s it say that one of the wealthiest corporations on earth pays minimum wage as a matter of business strategy? Should it be up to public policies to ensure better? If not fire policies such as minimum wage, what’s preventing them from paying less?

How much capital does the average McDonald’s worker generate? And what to make of McDonald’s workers in rural and urban areas with little other job opportunities? Sure, a part time high school worker doesn’t deserve to make much, but what about the fry cook working there full time for years cuz there’s few other job opportunities in the area, and limited economic mobility to go elsewhere?

There’s a lot of factors at play here, and that’s a lot of questions.

first two jobs out of high school were delivering pizzas for Mass St. Puzza Hut (RIP) and retail sales at a pet store.

no way i could’ve survived working 40hrs/wk at the first, and i don’t think any reasonable person would expect to, as it isn’t that kind of job

even after becoming manager at the second job and putting in 40+hrs/wk, i still REQUIRED having roommates in order to just get by. sure, nobody forced me to keep that second job, but it’s not like there are a lot of opportunities when you’re in your early 20s and trying to go to school

and these aren’t even the kinds of jobs i’m really talking about. it used to be the case that a FAMILY could do more than just get by on a single school teacher’s salary. that’s laughable today

Single school teacher’s salary lol sigh

My dad bragged about how friends from his generation proudly bought homes and provided for families with little more than an a high school diploma.

I said, ok great! Find me a job where I can earn a living enough to buy a house and provide for a family with little more than a high school diploma, and I’ll go work there too.

Oh, what’s that, dad? There’s not many of those jobs left in Merica no more? Well what did your proud generation do with them?

The burger flipper/fry dropper at mcdonalds isn't "generating capital"...the customer would come regardless. They aren't there because Ousdahl makes the best mcchicken.

Also, iirc McDonalds has franchisees, so yes, some are mom and pops barely scraping by.

And my guess is the McDonalds workers in small rural areas probably get paid better relative to living expenses....but at the same time there aren't fast food chains in towns of 200 people. It is very common that in rural areas people travel 20+ min to larger towns to find better paying jobs. McDonalds drive thru workers don't deserve a 100k salary. They probably deserve about a 20k ish yearly salary/income, which is about what they make.

From what I just found the average McDonalds employs 5.5 full time workers. There are approximately 38k McDonalds worldwide.

The idea that you think a CEO of a multinational corporation and a drive thru worker are worth comparing is LOL. The CEO probably deserves 2,000x the average employee wage.
