That would be a more accurate representation of the voting populace. Theres already a mechanism in place for this right? Maine and Nebraska have a similar type set up.
This then puts the emphasis on gerrymandering Congressional districts. Look at NC and Michigan. The total votes for the two parties are nearly equal but there is a huge disparity in congressional representation
So what's your solution?
National popular vote. Or, EV of each state being split to account for National popular vote. My proposal would be to allocate all but two EV proportionate to the percentage vote in the State rounded up, then two allocated to popular vote winner.

As an example, Georgia is practically tied. So, the sixteen votes would be split 9 Biden, 7 Trump (7 each based on State vote, plus two National)

Wyoming gets 3 votes. You get 55.
Exactly. We have 70x the population. It would be equitable if we got 210 EV
Nah, you guys elected Newsome. I dont know if California should decide the country. But very Californian of you to think so
BTW that’s probably also the ratio by which we subsidize the small-population states with tax $$$$$

All that scenario is is popular vote with 2 extra to popular vote. Gives even more power to the big city population.

I don’t think that’s a fight any state wants to pick with California.

No state produces more food for our nation than California. Good grief.

not where the 95% of the votes are gathered. Unless they're doing some extreme vertical gardens on a grand scale.

This is why we need more state decisions and less federal. Jeavily populated cities should bot make all the decisions for all areas.

You live in 1 of the states that splits its vote, which is one of the options on the table.....and rhis is the best you can do to add to the discussion?

No, it is a response to a comment.

I have discussed numerous times my desire to see the electoral college eliminated. It is antiquated and no longer works with the size of our nation.

More generally in relation to which states are producers, and which are takers. California is one of very few states - perhaps the only one? - that could be a leading country of its own.

I know this is a false equivalency skewed directly by port location.... but Cali imports 3x-4x more in goods than it exports

I dont discount a person's value for living in a larger city. Their vote should have equal value.

So, like I have said, you would like 10-15 cities to determine the policy for an entire country

I would like everyone's vote to feel like it results in the same amount of representation. Right now it doesnt. I dont know what the best way to accomplish that is but "because it's always been done that way" is almost never the right reason to continue to do something.

There.will eventually be a model out there that gets us closer. This isn't the way it will always be done. We just have to be more open to change so that people can feel more invested in the workings of our nation if they choose to be.
