Re: next soccer question
Vermes still doesn't get the full credit he deserves.
Their worst year was what, last year? When they poured everyting into CONCACAF Champions League and made their MLS season awful. Even then, they were 10W-16L-8D.

Re: next soccer question
Injuries were a huge part of last year. The expectations last year were close to where we ended up this year.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 10, 2020 8:41 am Vermes still doesn't get the full credit he deserves.

Adding Pulido obviously huge. I still think Vermes is elite as a GM and pretty good as a coach.
Re: next soccer question
USA Wales snuck up on me but it's on FS1 in 30 minutes.
Not our full powered lineup but some interesting guys including Gio Reyna, age 17, starting at mid.
McKennie looks to be the only starter from when we last played in the CONCACAF league.

Man, this wasn't talked about much, but kudos to the USMNT for getting rid of Bradley, Jozy and many of the older blah players and giving the fanbase the young guys.

Re: next soccer question
Reyna may be starting up top actually - don't know.
I wouldn't count all the older 'blah' players totally out - but yes, a lot of these cats are the future.

Re: next soccer question
There's some creative stuff here but also a lot of sloppiness ( from glancing at it while working ).
None of these guys have really played together as a unit before though.
0-0 with 5 + stoppage left.

US dominating TOP and shots. Really like what Dest showed today. Big fan of Adams taking over Bradley's role.
This squad would obviously look so much more crisp and attacking with Pulisic on the field.

Re: next soccer question
I think Bradley is done, but don't believe we have seen the last of Altidore on the USMNT. MLS playoffs and Covid travel restrictions meant this camp wouldn't have any MLS players anyway. Berhalter's system looks like it would be best played with speedy wingers like Pulisic and Reyna with a big target man in the middle of the top 3. Jozy's still our best option there, with Josh Sargent being his backup/eventual replacement.NewtonHawk11 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 1:17 pm Man, this wasn't talked about much, but kudos to the USMNT for getting rid of Bradley, Jozy and many of the older blah players and giving the fanbase the young guys.
That being said, a lot of positives today. Dest and Robinson look good at fullback and should be the #1 choice pair there going forward. The midfield trio featuring Adams and McKinnie was impressive playing a high line, pressing, and winning the ball back. We really did control much of that match. Lack of product in the final third should be cleaned up as the players redevelop some chemistry and knock the rust off after a long time apart. It will be interesting to see how much they progress come Monday's game.

Re: next soccer question
Welp, Sebastian Soto (Norwich City) and Nicholas Gioacchini (SM Caen) making my list from last week look a little off. Granted Panama isn't the hardest opponent, but both getting a brace is quite impressive. Gioacchini should have had a hat trick but took a horrible PK. de la Fuente and Llanez didn't look great in comparison.

And looked quite awful after. Fluky goal allowed, sure, but they didn’t play well either.

It's mind-blowing that SJ didn't convert 1 penalty.

Re: next soccer question
I never got to see him in his prime, and my lasting image of him will be of him being crazy and flipping the bird to all the fans at the World Cup in 2018.
But from videos I've seen, he was one of the greatest soccer players to ever play.
