zsn wrote: Wed Dec 09, 2020 12:13 am I don’t know if you guys are joking about lawyers getting vaccinated (rough few days at work) but my employment-lawyer friend who nearly died (for a while we thought he was gone), spent nearly 3 months in the ICU, likely contracted the virus in court. So there’s that. Of course that was in early March when we didn’t know that much.
My joke was about lawyers being considered essential workers across the country--which, I get because of criminal dockets and such--but I've seen too often firm heads using that as a basis to require mandatory office attendance for lawyers that are not doing life and death work, like myself.

Having done 2 jury trials during COVID and a dozen or so virtual hearings, I can absolutely say that the physical presence of most lawyers is not needed. Anyone getting deathly ill from COVID contracted at a routine hearing for an employment law case is pretty shameful from the Court's perspective.
I don’t disagree. I think the Courts have gone essentially all virtual now. However, as I mentioned when he got it was very early days and there were maybe a dozen or so confirmed cases in the county and people really didn’t have any idea of what was happening.

No, we absolutely do know know that at all. In fact, we k ow the exact opposite. Many people are doing as little as they are required to do (wearing a mask because a store requires it) and then ignoring any recommendations as to how to behave in private by hosting gatherings or attending private functions with no masks.

Also, 50.01% compliance, or even 80% compliance, just doesn’t move the needle from a suppression standpoint.

The fact is our numbers are right in line with the reasonable worst-case projections.

"Mostly everyone is doing their part"? Really?
You can't possibly be that ignorant. Can you?

You could have also just posted this again. Although, of course, a lot of those places have better healthcare than the US.

And, in several cases, cultural acceptance of/desire for masking.

I think the Thailand number is somewhat suspicious but the broader message is still very powerful. I agree with the conclusions

She is doing what I wish more Congress members would do which is to hold others accountable. She is doing a great job. I appreciate her transparency and dedication to her job.

What also makes her a person to like is that she is a single mother and she faces a lot of the same things that single parents face today. Granted she is a lawyer and is a politician, so it's a bit different, but she's the only member of congress who is a single parent, but yet she's also one of the most prepared members of congress and has won so many people over with the use of a simple whiteboard.

Katie Porter, a member of the House of Representatives for California's 45th district (which is in Orange County, California), has very little to do with whether Michigan's schools are open.

To the extent your concerns are properly addressed at anyone in the federal government, I'd suggest starting at the top.

We'd have a pretty normal life at the moment if your guy hadn't deliberately downplayed the virus, politicized mask-wearing and refused to use the enormous powers of his office to institute a comprehensive, national testing and tracing function.

While she is at it, can she open up an investigation into the teachers union.

She cannot. If you'd like to be able to hold Katie Porter accountable for something, I suggest moving to Irvine, California. It is a soulless, awful place.

Nuts! We need an investigation into the teachers union.

Can you file a class action lawsuit?
