Rupp Rafters Meltdown
Re: Rupp Rafters Meltdown
After their 38-1 2014-15 season:
27-9 (Second Round)
32-5 (Elite Eight)
26-11 (Sweet Sixteen)
30-7 (Elite Eight)
25-6 (COVID)
Would nearly every program in the country trade places with that? Sure. But nearly might not be good enough in this case.

all the blue bloods compare themselves to whatever other blue blood is most successful at that time
Re: Rupp Rafters Meltdown
I am beyond comparing Kansas to any other bb program. Its virtues and attainments dwarfing the remainder to such a degree that Quantrill himself would fear Allen Field House.
Re: Rupp Rafters Meltdown
Cal also benefits greatly from playing in a Football Conference. He'd have far less success if the coached in the ACC, Big 10 or Big 12. He knows that. That's why he liked Memphis so much.

Re: Rupp Rafters Meltdown
I mean. That's not wrong. The SEC is the 2nd worst conference in the P5. Ahead of only the Pac 12. It would be very interesting though if he was at say Duke. Would he have that success? Maybe, but it'd be a helluva lot harder.

Right. Over that period of time, Kentucky's staring at our ass, and Duke's, and Villanova's, and others.

I think UK has been less disappointing than duke over the past 5 seasons just because K has beaten Cal's ass on the recruiting trail in that time frame and the results have basically been even.
K getting a fat goose egg on Final Fours and ACC titles the last 5 years when he's had the Bagley/Carter/Allen etc. team and then Zion, the greatest man since Jesus, is hilarious.

Would we only trade places with Nova? Virginia?CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 3:50 pm I think UK has been less disappointing than duke over the past 5 seasons just because K has beaten Cal's ass on the recruiting trail in that time frame and the results have basically been even.

UVA would depend on how much credit we get for 2020.
I still take ours over UVA - even our bad year was a year we were pre-ranked #1, which was not a fluke. The fluky stuff (Dok, Vick) happened later.

Re: Rupp Rafters Meltdown
On average in the Big 12, how often is there a legit Final Four team not named Kansas? Every 3-4 seasons unless Buddy Hield is in the league?
Our bad 2019 just happened to overlap in that every 3-4 years when there was another legit Final Four team.

Just goes to show that these flashy glorified freshman are overhyped sometimes and don't guarantee anything. but yes it is absolutely hilarious when you think about how much hype/tv coverage they getCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 3:50 pm I think UK has been less disappointing than duke over the past 5 seasons just because K has beaten Cal's ass on the recruiting trail in that time frame and the results have basically been even.

Re: Rupp Rafters Meltdown
What is crazy is you could argue the league has 5 legit final four contenders this season. assuming you consider the top 10-15 teams in the nation in december to be contenders at this point. that is half the league. lot of season left for things to shake out thoughCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Dec 22, 2020 4:00 pm On average in the Big 12, how often is there a legit Final Four team not named Kansas? Re: Rupp Rafters Meltdown
I think it might be the greatest 5-year recruiting run of all time.
Let's also not forget that K says everyone else is just a "blip" and only he is doing this all cleanly. Maybe that's his excuse for not winning a damn thing. There's not a more hate-able program out there.

Re: Rupp Rafters Meltdown
It's hard because of small sample sizes, and the vagaries of relative competition, etc., but I'd be very interested in a thoughtful study of the optimal roster balance (with reference to, say, RSCI and college minutes).CrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 9:14 am I think it might be the greatest 5-year recruiting run of all time.
