Violence
Re: Violence
Can you believe this?
Journalism integrity watch:
The photograph that appeared in the Tyler (Texas) Morning Telegraph was distributed by the Associated Press with the caption "Supporters of Donald Trump climb the west wall of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, January 6, in Washington D.C." The local paper editors altered the caption to read,"Members of ANTIFA dressed as supporters of President Donald Trump climb the west wall of the US capitol on Wednesday in Washington."

They posted that it was a one man operation who changed right before print. They are re-running a corrected version.

Sorry, I can't help myself.
This is one of the people Trump called a patriot...said “we love you, you are very special.” Trump is now responsible for his death. And no, he can’t pardon himself.
This is Kevin Greyson of Athens, Alabama. Mr. Greyson died in the capital building during his attempt to overthrow our democracy. How did he die? He was attempting to steal a picture of Tip O’Neal when his own stun-gun fired in his front pocket. While electrocuting his own testicles, Mr. Greyson also suffered a heart attack and died on the scene. Under the feet of his other rabid insurrectionist traitors, with Tip O’Neal looming still oh-so-large over him. I sure hope Trump was worth it to him.

Re: Violence
The answer is to sue liars for the damage they do. Even Murdoch is on the resign bandwagon. Ken Paxton needs a pardon in the worst way, but there is no excuse for anyone else to play that game. They were hoping for a large counter-demonstration to blame for the martial law declaration after the executions on the lawn.

As I said to copperhead earlier to day when he posted this story, I am not sure I believe it. But as a parable, there is a lot to appreciate here.defixione wrote: ↑Fri Jan 08, 2021 5:40 pm Sorry, I can't help myself.

Funny, 2 weeks ago, my neighbor, "come and take 'em" guy, asked me from his mail box if I had enough ammo for when shit hits the fan.
I told him, I think so. If not, I will just come get yours. I wasn't kidding, doubt we speak again.

I believe the term their lawyer coached them to use was "their sacred house", let's get this right damnit. Words are important.

Re: Violence
This goes back to the point some of us made yesterday. They were outnumbered in so many ways. What could they really do?

Re: Violence
I wonder what would have happened if the cops unholstered and started spraying the door?
On a practical level, what effect would spraying the door have had on the crowd? As many magas as there were, it sounds like they weren’t super heavily armed, at least.
It’s kind of morbid, but we’ve seen cops unholster and start spraying for much, much less.
How would secret service or the military or some other force have handled it?
Maybe that’s the most damning thing about it - think of all the police brutality vids we’ve seen. If someone came to you and said “look at this latest footage, of cops just standing there like idiots,” how surprising would that be?
would you have in a million years expected that person to follow that up with, “...while radical extremists were attacking the Capitol.
Yes, attacking attacking. Violently.
Yes, the U.S. Capitol, with senators in there and everything.”
Pdub mentions parallels to this and the BLM riots, but I think there are far more contrasts.

Re: Violence
one of the biggest contrasts is that there had been actual threats of violence leading up to this, for weeks
let’s not forgot that this wasn’t spontaneous
