Yes. The insurrection didn’t start on January 6, or even Election Day. It started at least as far back as Trump’s lies about the last election. A solid 1/3 of the country simply does not have the willingness or capacity to accept a Trump loss.

That match was lit after November of '08 by the Republican Party's refusal to rebuke the white nationalists that flocked to the party. Trump just poured a tanker's worth of gasoline on an already large fire.

There are plenty of Tea Partiers in Congress. I think those people (generally) tended to have principles. But, in hindsight, it was sort of proof-of-concept for how to do MAGA.
