A guy in his mid 60's that Les knows from his UMich days is what we probably should have expected.

I'm not surprised, but I wanted to give Les a benefit of the doubt that he wouldn't do that..

What is true, though, is that the entire Harbaugh staff is lucky to return for the 2021 season.

Yes, and he's 3-18 and we were the worst offense in the country this year.

But even so, I would have rather kept Dearmon.

a typical. 'nation wide search' what a crock of shit. it was who is going to play well with les or even better who does Les hand pick to be the OC. Like I said earlier this hire may make or break the Miles tenure.
Not a sexy pick by any means but when you are KU your pool isn't big to begin with. I hope this works out.

Also hope I am wrong because Miles first year he pumped energy into a program that had been dead for years but I see him trending towards the reasons why he got canned at LSU. Stubborn. Didn't want to change. No innovation. Then he goes and hires his buddy from his Michigan years. I have a hard time believing a 64 yr old man is going to be able to relate to 17 yr old kids. Again, I hope I am wrong but this hire has bad idea written all over it.

Not only Les but it seems like Long, Debord and Les all were at Michigan in 93-94. How great to be a member of the ol' boys club. One minute you are hanging out with your grandkids the next you are being introduced as the next KU Football OC. On second thought I would have stayed with the kids.

KU Athletics is treading in awfully choppy waters right now. One potentially dumb move like this, along with NCAA sanctions could set them back for YEARS.

This is Les Koenning .50 in my opinion. He's been an OC recently, and not at Michigan since 2007. So I don't care about a Michigan fan's opinion because he hasn't called an offense for them in years.

I like his NFL experience and his vast college football experience. Just do feel like Miles wanted him because he will run the offense that Miles wants to run. I mean, at least he wasn't fired from his previous OC job like Koenning was. He retired in 2018.

We all what you want which is to be good and win games. We know that our coach, though, is the guy that got fired because he couldn't score any points. This feels like the same mistake and it's been a long while since Debord was relevant. And, we are one hour into the hire and a legitimate question is "how long Debord last as OC?" Given the circumstances, not ideal.

I hope it works out. I have been both pessimistic and optimistic many times over about the last 10 years of KU football. But, the only constant is that we have not been good.

His resume is decent enough and for KU standards impressive. The issue being he was mostly liked hand picked and will run an offense that is favored by Miles. That wouldn’t be an issue if Les didn’t get canned for, you know not being great on offense.

It was pretty clear last year Ku didn’t have the line or QB to run the spread Dearmon favored. It was a bunch of 3 and outs which put the defense in a bad spot. Maybe slowing down the tempo, running the ball and taking shots when you can will be more favorable. All of that depends on the development of the o-line and whoever plays QB.

One explanation is the job is really just that hard of a sell and Miles, not knowing what else to do, turns to what he's always been comfortable with. It just feels like another example of the good ol boys club failing up.

For me, it's that the iPhone has been invented since he had a truly noteworthy OC stint.

I don't want to defend Dearmon as some can't miss prospect, but he did deal with losing a 1000-yd back in-season in both seasons he coached. Not to mention the big one, it would have just been better for Dearmon and Daniels to grow into the roles together over 5 seasons.

Les was loyal to his assistants to the bitter end at LSU and it cost him his job. The first chance he got he went and hired one of his buddies away from the shuffle board club.

The last game Debord was the OC in his team lost 8-3. It’s going to be a long, long 2021.

It's probably not far off. He was in SEC, Big 10 and the NFL. Warinner is just on our minds because he had the most successful streak of Kansas football ever. Was that in part due to him, or was it due to players and Mangino. That's the mystery, always.

Well with all due respect that is a complete strawman.

But, I'd have to ask, how long ago was this? Because KU plays in the Big 12 in 2021. FBS football in general: I bet Nick Saban would have laughed in your face in the 90's/00's if you said he'd need to score in the 40's to win national championships.
