It was probably not as satisfying as that. He's an exceedingly sharp man. He's known that shit that guy cray.

What really happened is that, being an exceedingly sharp man, he rightly concluded that Trump was going to lose, and there's precious little time left to flee the ship with reputation still somewhat intact.

Because he has, how to say, unique views on the power of the executive branch in American politics. Like others, he saw an opportunity to use Trump for what he is: an empty vessel, with little concern for what cargo gets loaded into him, so long as someone says nice things.

Dominion has millennialist connotations going back to New Harmony and before in America. Ironic that a name chosen to be deferential with that segment is now a flashing red light to them.
