Super Bowl LV
Re: Super Bowl LV
Also, the shove from Chris Jones, unnecessary roughness, right after he was shoved, meh.
Woulda been 3rd and 6.

Re: Super Bowl LV
I haven't gone back to see, but I recall it looking also like that pass was tipped at the line. I think, possibly depending on when the "hold" occurred, that would have wiped out any hold/PI.

And the 'unsportsmanlike conduct' on Tyrann even though Brady ran after him to say something. At least in that case that should be on both of them but because it is Brady it was on Tyrann. The list goes on and on. *Sigh*

Re: Super Bowl LV
The "hold" after the ball was in the air, but according to the refs, "Prior to the pass being thrown, holding on the defense" It was tipped immediately, so PI is off the table too.

I don't think a tipped ball means there can't be defensive holding, before or after ball in air.

A tipped ball is fair game for anybody. Can do basically anything you want to get that ball.

I don't see the flag come out when Evans and Ward are still on screen.
The flag likely came after the tip - but the 'hold' ( cough cough bullshit ) before.

Re: Super Bowl LV
Maybe I am imagining this but I noticed and was very surprised that it seemed to me there were plays defensive players didn't give 100% and/or gave up on the play/s.
I noticed it on the Gronk TD catch at the end of the 1st Quarter and other times during the game.
Am I alone in thinking this?

If true, there's got to be some way the sportsbook can contest.

Re: Super Bowl LV
It just seemed like there was a lot of sentiment to get Brady trophies. He probably isn’t even in my Top 5 QBs. A team sport. He has been on some great teams. Like Dilfer was. GOAT, IMHO was Manning so far. Elway. Montana. Bradshaw. Mahomes. Just based on on-field toughness and improvisational skill.

Hey Josh Hawley, a week ago you said Montana was the GOAT. Peyton must have had a good week.Sparko wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:53 pm It just seemed like there was a lot of sentiment to get Brady trophies. He probably isn’t even in my Top 5 QBs. A team sport. Not in your top 5 QBs?
I can't.
Bradshaw over Brady?
I just can't.

Re: Super Bowl LV
Brady would have lasted five games in the 70s.
Look at this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2 ... l-referee/
Same guy who screwed the Chiefs versus Pittsburgh a few years ago.

Montana is my GOAT. Manning is against the Chiefs though—should have specified my list was based on Chief memoriesCrimsonNBlue wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 2:00 pmHey Josh Hawley, a week ago you said Montana was the GOAT. Re: Super Bowl LV
If your argument is that it in the 70s there weren’t rules protecting the QB, fine, but I think Brady would adjust.
But Brady would be a very big QB in the 70s. Players were generally smaller. And weren’t as athletic. And offensive schemes have exponentially gotten more complex.

Put Bill, Brady and Randy Moss back in 1970 and they win 10 straight.

Re: Super Bowl LV
Brady ain't George Blanda and would not have been playing into his 40's
Defense. Rebounds.
Re: Super Bowl LV
There's two main ways you can have these arguments - judge them in their time period - which Brady has clearly dominated - or you compare them to players in the past and say they couldn't do the same in that era.
I always take those type of hypothetical arguments as if peak athlete ( say Brady in 2011 ) was teleported ( I know but it's a hypothetical argument ) with their knowledge, skillset and body instantly to that time period ( and vice versa ).
The whole argument of 'well it's not fair they had access to things prior players didn't' is now moot - and in fact, is a large part of the argument.
Brady is a bigger QB than both Blanda and Bradshaw.
He could spend his practices and offseason in the 70s teaching his coach the tactics he knows that have never been tried before. And now the linemen and linebackers coming after him are smaller and slower and have less complex defensive schemes to memorize.
Teleport Bradshaw to a game today and he's getting these zones he's never seen and now the defensive linemen are big and fast - and the corners faster. The game altogether is faster.

Re: Super Bowl LV
The game was sooo brutal. Look at Davidson’s hits on Dawson. It is faster but way better protected today. Remember seeing Tatum kill guys. Have a lot of respect for guys in and coming out of that era. Elway. Damn it.
